Which version should a US Acura Integra owner choose?

The USDM version. This bonnet is registered by Spoon for the JDM Integra Type R, and Spoon makes a separate USDM carbon bonnet catered to the US-market Acura Integra DC2 and DB8. Choose this one only for a car that carries the JDM Type R front end, whether original or converted.

Are bonnet pins needed?

No. Spoon designed this bonnet to close on the factory latch in the same way as the original, so pins are not part of the install. Some track organizers ask for secondary hood restraints on every car regardless of construction, so check the rules of the event if the Integra is run in competition.

How much lighter is it than the factory bonnet?

Spoon does not publish a weight for the Integra version. Its carbon bonnet copy cites a cut from 15.5 kg to 8.2 kg on the EG and EK Civic, about half, but that figure belongs to the Civic parts. The 16 kg Spoon lists for this item appears to include packing, so BA quotes no saving.

Will the carbon fade in the sun?

It can. Spoon warns that ultraviolet light may discolor carbon and recommends a UV-protective clear coat. Test fit the bonnet before the clear is applied, then let it air dry rather than baking it, since Spoon says heat from a booth, a heater or a localized source can distort the panel.

Does the Carbon Bonnet for DC2 suit a street car?

Yes. It latches like the factory bonnet, the washers still work and there is nothing to remove before a drive. The Carbon Bonnet for DC2 and DB8 makes most sense on a Type R driven hard, where a lighter nose sharpens turn-in, but a well clear-coated example lives happily on a road car.

Description

Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for DC2 / DB8 Honda Integra Type R

The Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for DC2 and DB8 Honda Integra Type R is the JDM-shape version of the Spoon Integra bonnet, registered for the three-door and four-door Type R that Honda built in Japan from October 1995 to July 2001, race-base cars included. Carbon is used for the reason it dominates motorsport: high strength for very little weight. On a front-engine, front-drive car that already carries most of its mass over the front wheels, taking weight out of the bonnet shows up as less understeer, sharper turn-in and less work for the front brakes, the handling traits Spoon treats as essential for sport driving. The bonnet locks with the factory latch, so no bonnet pins are needed, and the washers keep working. The carbon weave stays visible. For a Type R used on track or in hillclimbs it is a direct way to lighten the nose; for a concours-original car, the factory bonnet is the better keep.

Features

Carbon construction for high strength at low weight
Exposed black carbon weave finish
Locks with the factory latch; no bonnet pins required
Window washers remain functional
Shaped to the JDM Integra Type R front end

Applications

Honda Integra Type R: DC2 | 1995-2001 | 1.8L B18C
Honda Integra Type R 4-door: DB8 | 1995-2001 | 1.8L B18C

Notes

Shaped for the JDM Integra Type R; for the US-market Acura Integra, Spoon makes a separate USDM bonnet, 60100-DCR-200
The Carbon Bonnet for DC2 and DB8 is sold as one bonnet
Spoon recommends a UV-protective clear coat, as carbon can discolor in sunlight
Test fit before any paint or clear coat, and air dry below 40 degrees Celsius without booth heat or spot heating
DB8 is the JDM 4-door Integra Type R, a body style not sold in the US

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
