Does the Brake Hose Set for AP1 fit the 2004 and 2005 US S2000?

Yes. Go Tuning sells the Brake Hose Set for AP1 for US model years 2000 through 2005, which includes the 2004 and 2005 cars with the 2.2 liter engine. Spoon registers every JDM AP1 from April 1999 to November 2005. Owners of 2006 to 2009 cars need the separate AP2 set.

How does it change the feel of the brake pedal?

A rubber hose expands a little under each brake application, absorbing part of the pedal stroke. The Spoon low-expansion Teflon tube resists that swelling and the stainless mesh holds it in shape, so more of the stroke becomes clamping force. Owners usually describe a firmer pedal with a more precise point of engagement.

Do I need to bleed the brakes after fitting?

Yes. Replacing any brake hose opens the hydraulic system, so every corner must be bled to remove air once the new lines are in. It is a good moment to refill with fresh, high-temperature fluid, since old fluid absorbs moisture and its boiling point falls with age.

Are the fittings stainless or aluminium?

Neither. Spoon makes the end fittings from steel and chose the material for its strength, while the stainless steel mesh forms the outer cover of the hose. Steel fittings tolerate repeated tightening during brake service better than soft alloys, which suits a car that sees regular pad and caliper work.

Will the set work with my factory calipers?

Yes. Spoon registers the set for the AP1 with no caliper requirement, so it fits the factory brakes as well as the Spoon monoblock calipers sold for the S2000. Owners planning a caliper upgrade can fit the hoses now and keep them when the calipers change later.

Description

Spoon Sports Brake Hose Set for AP1 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Brake Hose Set for AP1 S2000 replaces the factory flexible brake lines with a No. 3 low-expansion Teflon inner tube sheathed in stainless steel mesh, terminated in steel fittings that Spoon chose for their strength. The AP1 is a car that gets driven to its limits: a front-engine, rear-drive roadster with a high-revving F20C, regularly taken from high speed into tight corners on mountain roads and circuits. Under those loads a rubber hose swells slightly each time the pedal is pressed, and that swelling is felt as softness and lost travel. Spoon pairs the low-expansion tube with the braided cover to give a direct brake touch, so the foot reads what the pads are doing. Spoon registers the set for every JDM AP1 from April 1999 to November 2005, and Go Tuning sells it for US model years 2000 to 2005. For an S2000 already on good pads and fresh fluid, this is the logical next step.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
