Should I fit the 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 on a street car?

No. Spoon states that the factory 2in1 section is well designed inside and gives a wide torque band, so replacing it on a car driven mainly on the road brings no benefit. The 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 earns its place only on a circuit car that runs high in the rev range.

What part of the exhaust does it replace?

It replaces the factory 2in1 section, the part that merges two exhaust pipes into one behind the primary manifold. Spoon lists the section at 7.5 kg and packs it in a box measuring 23 x 40 x 86 cm. The primary manifold ahead of it is a separate part.

Why do some owners lose low-end torque after a header change?

Spoon says the usual cause is combining parts whose characteristics differ from the factory set-up, rather than the parts themselves. That is why Spoon steers road cars toward its 4in2 with the factory 2in1, and keeps this section for engines that live at high rpm.

Does it fit the Acura RSX Type S or the Civic Si?

Spoon registers the section only for K20A cars: the JDM Integra Type R and the EP3 Civic Type R. The US RSX Type S and EP3 Civic Si use different versions of the engine, so BA will confirm any US car with the distributor before an order is accepted.

How much power does it add?

Spoon publishes no power or torque figures for the section, so BA does not quote any. Any gain depends on the engine operating high in its rev range, which is the condition Spoon names as the only one where replacing the factory 2in1 pays off.

Description

Spoon Sports 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 Honda Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R replaces the factory 2-into-1 section on the K20A, and Spoon is unusually frank about who should buy it. The production 2in1 has a cleverly designed interior and gives a broad torque band, so on a car driven mainly on the street, Spoon says swapping it achieves nothing. The benefit appears only when the engine spends its time high in the rev range on a circuit. Spoon adds a warning drawn from experience: when owners lose low-speed torque after a manifold change, the cause is often a mix of parts with characteristics unlike the factory combination. Spoon lists this section at 7.5 kg and ships it in a box of 23 x 40 x 86 cm. Read that advice as a filter. For a DC5 or EP3 set up for time attack or endurance events, with gearing and driving that hold the K20A near the redline, this is the section Spoon developed; for a road car, the Spoon 4in2 with the factory 2in1 is the better buy.

Notes

Spoon recommends the 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 only for circuit cars that run at high rpm, and it brings no benefit on a street car
Spoon registers the JDM Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R with the K20A; the US Acura RSX and EP3 Civic Si carry different engines and are not on its list
Spoon publishes no power figures, pipe sizes or material for this section

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
