Does the Venturi Throttle Body for AP2 need a tune?

Spoon lists no calibration change in its fitting information for the venturi throttle body for AP2, and it supplies the gasket for a direct swap. A car already running a custom map should still be reviewed by its tuner afterwards, because a larger bore changes the airflow at any given pedal position.

Will it fit a 2004 or 2005 S2000?

No. Spoon registers the AP2 from chassis AP2-100, and Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, sells this part for 2006 to 2009 model year cars only. The 2004 and 2005 US cars are absent from both lists, so BA will not ship it for one of them.

How much larger is it than the stock throttle body?

The bore grows from 67 mm to 70 mm and the butterfly from 64 mm to 66 mm. Worked out from those diameters, that is roughly 9 percent more bore area. The venturi shape and polished walls add to the effect by letting air through the larger opening with less turbulence.

Why does Spoon mirror-finish the inside?

Rough machined walls slow the boundary layer of air and create small eddies. By diamond cutting the bore to a mirror surface, Spoon reduces that friction so more of the opening carries useful flow. It is the same thinking Spoon applies to its intake and exhaust parts, taken to the throttle.

Is it worth fitting to an otherwise stock S2000?

It depends on the plan. On a standard AP2 the throttle is not the main restriction, so the change will be modest. It earns its price on a car with a freer intake and exhaust, or one heading for further engine work, where the factory bore becomes the narrowest point in the system.

Description

Spoon Sports Venturi Throttle Body for AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Venturi Throttle Body for AP2 Honda S2000, catalogued by Spoon as the Venturi Big Throttle Body, opens the 2.2-litre F22C intake from a 67 mm bore to 70 mm and replaces the 64 mm butterfly with a 66 mm one. Spoon arrived at the design after re-examining its earlier throttle bodies through repeated testing. The bore now follows a venturi profile to improve cylinder filling, and its walls are diamond-cut to a mirror finish so incoming air meets as little friction as possible. The butterfly is an oval plate cut on an angle, which lets it close a larger bore while matching the durability of the factory part. On an AP2 already running an intake and exhaust it removes a restriction every gram of air must pass; on a standard car the gain will be smaller.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
