Does the SOUL Valved Muffler Bypass Conversion fit every 986 Boxster?

Yes. SOUL builds this conversion to fit all Porsche 986 Boxsters from 1997 to 2004, covering the base 2.5L and 2.7L cars and the 3.2L Boxster S. It installs in place of the factory muffler section using the removable piping Porsche designed into the 986 exhaust.

How much does it change the exhaust sound?

With the valves closed, the Boxster stays close to its factory sound and keeps OEM driving manners. Open the valves and the mufflers are bypassed, sending exhaust through dump tubes for an aggressive, race-inspired bark and a fuller flat-six roar. You control the setting on demand.

Is an ECU tune required?

No. The conversion is a bolt-in exhaust change and does not need an ECU tune to run. Many owners add tuning for other reasons, but it is not required for this valved muffler bypass conversion to work as designed.

What is the SOUL 986 Boxster conversion made from?

SOUL fabricates each set in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania from brand-new OEM Porsche muffler piping paired with application-specific valves that default to closed. Every conversion is built and leak-tested in a dedicated aluminum fixture to prevent warping, then foam-packed for safe shipping.

Is professional installation recommended?

Yes. The conversion bolts in where the factory muffler section comes out, so no cutting or welding is needed, and owners report the job takes roughly two hours through the engine service hatch. A shop ensures proper fitment and valve controller setup.

How are the valves controlled, and is the conversion warrantied?

The valves are controlled by the included remotes, or by your car's factory HomeLink buttons when it is equipped with them. They default to closed on startup to limit cold-start drone. SOUL backs the conversion with a lifetime warranty covering materials and workmanship for street and track use.

SOUL Performance Valved Muffler Bypass Conversion for 986 Porsche Boxster

The SOUL Performance Valved Muffler Bypass Conversion for the Porsche 986 Boxster unlocks the character hiding in your flat-six while preserving the civility you need day to day. At the press of a button, the valves open and reroute exhaust flow through dedicated dump tubes, bypassing the mufflers to unleash a sharper, race-inspired bark and a classic flat-six roar reminiscent of air-cooled CUP cars. Designed and built in-house at SOUL’s Willow Grove, PA facility using brand-new OEM Porsche muffler piping and application-specific valving, each set is fixture-built and thoroughly tested for excellent fitment, then carefully foam-packed for safe arrival. Valves can be controlled either with the included remotes or integrated into your factory HomeLink buttons when equipped, and like all SOUL components, the 986 Valved Muffler Bypass Conversion is backed by their renowned lifetime warranty for both street and track use.

Development

Their objective was to create a cost-effective valved exhaust system that seamlessly transitioned from “Cruising Sunday” mode to “Track Day” mode with a simple press of a button. The default setting was designed to have the valves closed, ensuring a refined startup experience without disturbing the garage’s or neighboring residences’ tranquility. A key priority was to minimize drone during operation. Recognizing the opportunity provided by Porsche’s inclusion of a removable section of piping in the exhaust system, they ingeniously incorporated valved Muffler Bypass tubes in this ideal location.

Construction

Every set is meticulously crafted in-house by Soul’s skilled fabrication team, using brand-new OEM Porsche muffler piping and purpose-built valves specifically designed for the application. The valves are set to a closed mode by default, ensuring seamless integration with the vehicle’s original configuration.

Sound

Rest assured, when starting up your Boxster in your garage, there is no need to worry as the valves are closed by default. This ensures that the original Porsche driving characteristics and exhaust note are preserved until you choose to open the valves. Once you do, you will be greeted with an assertive bark as the mufflers are bypassed, delivering an aggressive and captivating sound experience.
With the valves open, the exhaust gases are directed through the dump tubes, unleashing a resounding flat-six roar.

Bolt-On & Go

Every exhaust is meticulously constructed and tested in a robust aluminum fixture with a thick gauge to prevent warping, guaranteeing a flawless fitment. To ensure its safe arrival, each exhaust is carefully foam-packed, providing maximum protection during shipping. Additionally, every set and valve controller kit undergoes rigorous quality checks before being shipped, ensuring the highest performance and reliability standards.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
