The 991.1 Carrera Valved Performance Exhaust System from SOUL Performance has been meticulously designed to cater to the discerning enthusiast. When the valves are open, the exhaust gases flow through an unrestricted path, creating a captivating symphony from the flat six engine that will undoubtedly send shivers down your spine. Whether you’re on your way to meet a client or embarking on a special dinner date, simply close the valves and revel in the refined and understated tone, as the factory side mufflers excel at their job. If you have concerns about drone on your PDK-equipped vehicle, rest assured that this system will exceed your expectations and provide a satisfying driving experience free from unwanted drone. Numerous 991.1 Carrera owners find themselves unimpressed with the sound and performance of their stock sport exhaust system. It simply doesn’t deliver the desired level of satisfaction. In response, they embarked on a mission to create an exhaust system that possesses a true Jekyll and Hyde personality, perfectly matching the Carrera’s persona as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Their primary objective was to design a system that allows exhaust gases to flow through a straight path when the valves are open. To achieve this, they incorporated a larger tubing diameter, smooth radius bends, and optimized X-pipe crossover flow characteristics. These enhancements improve exhaust scavenging effects, leading to increased volumetric efficiency, and ultimately result in a drastic improvement in throttle response and overall performance compared to the restrictive factory sport exhaust system.

Development & Testing

Their objective was to enhance the level of comfort during daily driving without compromising the race-inspired tone and straight-through exhaust design. They discovered that incorporating a larger resonator would not achieve the desired outcome and would also necessitate revisions for clearances, potentially compromising the high-flow design principles of their exhaust system. Additionally, they recognized that simply adding higher flowing aftermarket headers, such as their Long Tube Street Headers, to an already aggressive rear system without proper sound attenuating features could lead to an excessively loud and potentially unpleasant driving experience.
For customers who have combined a rear exhaust with upgraded headers, it becomes crucial to consider and engineer the exhaust system appropriately. In such a configuration, the inclusion of Helmholtz resonators, also known as anti-drone tubes, can be highly effective in reducing undesirable frequencies when correctly engineered and utilized. In the case of the 991.1 Carrera, there is a specific RPM range, typically between 3,000 and 3,500 RPM, where drone can become noticeable when higher flowing exhaust components are installed. The goal was to eliminate these unwanted frequencies within that range, while also ensuring a smooth transition from valves closed to open, particularly for vehicles equipped with the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) system.
Through meticulous development, their final design has proven to deliver exceptional results on this specific application, meeting their exacting standards for sound quality and drivability. While the mathematical calculations can be performed to create Helmholtz resonators, it is crucial to consider how they are incorporated into the design, as this aspect can make a significant difference in the overall performance.

Construction

Every exhaust system is meticulously crafted in-house using mandrel bent T304L stainless steel with a substantial.065″ wall thickness. Once constructed, each exhaust undergoes thorough quality checks to ensure its exceptional craftsmanship and performance. The welding process involves back purged TIG welding techniques, guaranteeing the proper weld penetration and ensuring the longevity and durability of the exhaust system.

Sound

The sound produced by their system is undeniably aggressive. One of the primary advantages is that, with the valves open, there is a direct and unobstructed path from the 2.5″ piping to the tips, allowing for an exhilarating and unrestricted flow of exhaust gases. However, they have skillfully incorporated additional refinements into the system to perfectly align with the premium experience that is emblematic of all things Porsche.
Whether the valves are open or closed, the presence of the X-pipe further contributes to smoothing out the overall sound profile. Overall, they are extremely satisfied with the results achieved, and they are confident that you will be too. When the valves are open, the system’s free-flowing nature provides a sound reminiscent of Cup cars, with increased volume and an abundance of crackles and burbles during deceleration. This system is tailored for those seeking an added level of aggression that can be easily activated at the press of a button. On the other hand, with the valves closed, the tone remains reasonably refined, and drone is kept to a minimum while still allowing the distinct flat six sound to be distinctly heard.

Bolt On & Go

Every exhaust undergoes meticulous testing in a fixture to ensure precise fitment, and then it is carefully foam packed to ensure it arrives in impeccable condition. The package includes comprehensive installation instructions, making it a straightforward process that can be undertaken by most DIY enthusiasts. Additionally, new high-grade hardware is included to facilitate a secure and reliable installation.
This system seamlessly integrates with the factory PSE controls, enabling convenient control over the exhaust modes. Moreover, it is compatible with both PSE-equipped and non-PSE-equipped S / GTS cars by installing a SOUL valve controller kit, providing flexibility in application.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
