Which Porsche 987.2 models does the SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust fit?

It fits the 2009-2012 Porsche 987.2 Boxster, Boxster S, Cayman, Cayman S, and Cayman R, covering both the 2.9-liter and 3.4-liter flat-six. It is a direct bolt-on, and the included valve controller kit means it works whether or not your car has factory Porsche Sport Exhaust.

Do I need the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE)?

No. SOUL includes a valve controller kit with the system. On cars without PSE it is required to operate the valves; on cars with PSE it is optional, for manual override. Either way, you can switch between the quiet and loud modes.

How does it change the sound?

With the valves closed, exhaust runs through the fortified, sound-deadened muffler for a refined tone that stays drone-free at highway speed when paired with stock headers. With them open, it takes the large 2.5-inch path for a louder, race-inspired note. The perforated piping keeps the sound full in both modes.

The SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust is primarily a sound and weight upgrade on its own. Paired with SOUL Long Tube Street Headers, a Dynojet showed up to 8 whp and 11 ft-lbs at 4,100 rpm; that figure is for the exhaust and headers together, not the exhaust alone. No ECU tune is required, though some owners tune for more.

What is it made from?

It is built from mandrel-bent 2.5-inch T304L stainless steel with fortified muffler casings and reinforced hangers, fabricated in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Tips are 321 stainless or single-wall titanium, the titanium saving nearly a pound. The system weighs 30 lbs against 35 for the factory components.

Is professional installation recommended?

Yes. While it is a direct bolt-on, SOUL recommends professional installation to ensure correct fitment and a proper seal. New header-to-exhaust flange hardware and instructions are included, and the system is backed by a lifetime warranty and fitment guarantee.

Description

SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust for 987.2 Porsche Boxster & Cayman

The 987.2 Valved Exhaust system by SOUL Performance Products provides a distinct contrast in sound between mild and race-inspired tones, effortlessly controlled with the press of a button. Experience the enhanced response, character, and sound that your car truly deserves. In the quiet mode with the valves closed, you’ll enjoy a refined and sporty sound that is free from any drone (when paired with stock headers) even at highway speeds. This enables you to navigate your neighborhood discreetly without causing annoyance to those around you, thanks to the inclusion of high-quality mufflers. However, when the valves are unlocked, you’ll be ready to immerse yourself in the driving experience. Feel free to turn off the radio, roll down the windows, and conquer your favorite back roads or unleash your car’s potential on the track.

Development & Testing

To prevent the 987.2 Cayman / Boxster from overshadowing the performance of the 911, Porsche installs a restrictive and bulky exhaust system that compromises the natural power and sound of these models, an unacceptable compromise according to SOUL Performance. In response, they developed the Valved Exhaust system using their own Project 987.2 Cayman S, ensuring a noticeable and refined distinction between exhaust modes, even when combined with aftermarket headers. During dyno testing on a Dynojet, they achieved maximum gains of 8 whp and 11 ft-lbs of torque at 4,100rpm when paired with their Long Tube Street Headers on the SOUL project Cayman S. Currently, this exhaust system is used on their daily driven Cayman S and consistently tested on their Project Cayman R. Aftermarket exhaust hangers and supports for Boxster / Cayman models are prone to cracking and failure. To address this, SOUL Performance has reinforced brackets to prevent damage during prolonged street use and track days.

Construction

Each exhaust system is meticulously crafted using mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel tubing, incorporating 2.5″ OD over axle pipes for optimal performance. The mufflers are specifically designed with fortified casings to ensure long-lasting durability. When the valves are closed, the exhaust gases are directed into the SOUL muffler, equipped with high-quality sound-deadening material engineered to withstand rigorous use without compromising performance over time. The mufflers effectively minimize drones, delivering a smooth and pleasant driving experience. The exhaust gases pass through the muffler and exit through perforations into the outer piping. When the valves are open, the exhaust gases are able to freely exit through the large 2.5″ piping. At the same time, the perforations enable interaction between the exhaust gases and the muffler, resulting in a fuller and more robust tone. A wide range of options are available for the exhaust tips, including various styles and finishes made from 321 stainless steel. Additionally, titanium single-wall tips are also offered, providing a weight reduction of nearly a pound compared to the stainless steel tips.

Bolt On & Go

Every exhaust undergoes meticulous testing in a dedicated fixture to guarantee precise fitment, and it is then carefully foam packed to ensure it arrives in flawless condition. Additionally, new high-grade hardware is provided specifically for the header to exhaust flanges, ensuring secure and reliable connections. Thorough installation instructions are included in the package, making the installation process straightforward and easily manageable for most DIY enthusiasts.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
