The SOUL Performance 992 GT3 valved exhaust delivers a significant sound improvement over the factory PSE through smooth-radius cast transition cones from the headers into a bespoke X-chamber muffler for the valves-closed path and a large-diameter X-pipe for the valves-open path. The result is a higher-pitched, smoother sound with more presence during casual driving and an aggressive wail at wide open throttle. Designed and built in-house at SOUL’s Willow Grove, PA facility and backed by the SOUL Performance Lifetime Warranty.

Cast Cones

Designed from CAD to CNC with no compromises, SOUL’s cast cones transition with the least aggressive radius possible for peak flow from the large header flange to the muffler section. The mating flanges and clamping surfaces are fully machined for a perfect seal, requiring both the casting itself and a purpose-built fixture for precision final machining. The result is the smoothest possible exhaust flow, fewer welds for improved durability, and a proper sports car sound.

Muffler

With valves open, exhaust flows freely through 3-inch piping to an X-pipe that merges the exhaust banks for a higher-pitched, smooth sound with maximum flow. With valves closed, exhaust routes through secondary flow path piping and the bespoke muffler. The internal design uses straight-through perforated piping with little to no restriction, allowing exhaust gases to escape into the surrounding packing material of the muffler body. An internal X-pipe allows the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. These characteristics reduce and smooth drone below 3,000 RPM while enhancing the higher-pitched note under all conditions.
The valves-open flow path is not limited to the external X-pipe; some exhaust flow continues through the secondary path even with valves open, using the entire secondary flow path through the muffler to smooth tone and reduce drone in both modes. This design allows SOUL to go aggressive on the primary valves-open flow path for maximum sound improvement without additional resonators or mufflers. A tip plate compatible with 991 GT3 tip assemblies is also incorporated, allowing tip style changes.

Valves

The factory exhaust valves use electronic actuators on a free-moving mechanical valve body. Factory programming holds the valves closed until 4,000 RPM, then progressively opens them from 4,000 to 5,000 RPM. With PSE active, the valves can be opened at a standstill, but close again under acceleration and repeat the same 4,000-to-5,000 RPM cycle. For full valve override at wide open throttle regardless of RPM, ECU tuning is available. SOUL’s tested, upcoming plug-and-play Valve Controller Kit will also be available for this purpose.

Sound

The SOUL Performance 992 GT3 valved exhaust was designed to enhance tone under all conditions. With valves closed, volume is increased over OEM by a refined amount; the sound is more pronounced, smoother, and more exciting than the hollow factory note. With valves progressively opening from 4,000 RPM, the character becomes moderately more aggressive. At wide open throttle with valves fully open, the higher-pitched wail of a GT car is fully present. The blending of banks from the X-pipes combined with the sound-attenuating muffler design delivers a higher-pitched, more refined character throughout the RPM range, comfortable in the cabin at all times.

Construction

Each system is assembled in-house in the USA from mandrel-bent, thick-wall 0.065-inch T304L stainless steel. Billet 304L stainless steel head flanges are precision-cut on a 5-axis CNC machine for the best possible exhaust flow and strength. Back-purged TIG welding with ARCAL Prime argon gas ensures proper weld penetration and long-term durability, crucial for track use. Thick-gauge aluminum fixtures act as heat sinks during welding to prevent warpage of both the components and the fixtures.
