Are hood pins, the rain protector and the aluminum net included?

No. The Type-V Vented Hood for GK5 and other GK Fits comes with the catch hardware and bolts installed for the factory hood catch. Hood pins are not supplied but are recommended for sports driving, and the inner rain protector and aluminum net are optional parts sold separately.

How much weight does the Type-V Vented Hood for GK5 save?

The manufacturer publishes a weight only for the Carbon and FRP version: 4.3 kg, about 9.5 lb, against roughly 8.3 kg, about 18.3 lb, for the stock hood. No weight is given for the Full Carbon or FRP versions, so no figure is quoted here for those two.

Which material should I choose?

Pick FRP if the hood will be painted to match the body, since both faces are black gelcoat. Carbon and FRP shows plain-weave carbon on top with an FRP underside and carries the published weight figure. Full Carbon uses clear gelcoat carbon on both faces for the most finished look under the hood.

Does it need paint or clear coat?

The FRP hood needs paint to match the car, which is not included. The carbon versions arrive with a clear gelcoat over the weave and can be fitted as supplied, although the manufacturer recommends an additional clear coat on any version to keep the surface looking good long term.

Will it fit Fits other than the GK5?

Yes. The manufacturer lists the hood for the whole GK range, GK3 through GK6, with either the 1.3 liter L13B or 1.5 liter L15B engine. It uses the factory hood catch on all of them, so no extra latch hardware is needed to mount it.

Description

J’s Racing Type-V Vented Hood for GK5 Honda Fit

J’s Racing’s Type-V Vented Hood for GK5 and other GK Fits took about a year to develop for Super Taikyu. To cool the cramped engine bay, the Osaka tuner used a V-shaped duct: air flowing over the hood creates negative pressure that draws hot air out through vents on the left and right. J’s Racing says this lowers coolant, oil and intake air temperatures and holds off heat soak in hard driving. The Carbon and FRP version weighs 4.3 kg, against about 8.3 kg for the stock hood. It is best on a Fit driven hard in warm weather; a commuter gains mainly the weight saving and the look.

Construction

On the carbon versions, craftsmen lay up single sheets of plain-weave carbon cloth by hand and finish them in clear gelcoat. The factory hood catch carries over, with catch hardware and bolts already installed, so the hood can be fitted without hood pins.

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
