How much cooler does the Type-V Vented Hood for GD cars run?

In circuit testing, the Type-V Vented Hood for GD Fits lowered coolant temperature by about 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, according to the manufacturer. The V-shaped duct lets engine heat escape instead of soaking under the hood, so results depend on ambient temperature, engine condition and pace.

Does it keep the factory hood catch and washers?

Yes. The hood works with the factory hood catch, and the fittings and bolts needed for it are supplied. It is also designed to accept the factory windshield washer nozzles, so the washer system carries over from the original hood and the windshield stays clear in the rain.

Which version should I buy?

Choose Full Carbon for carbon on both faces, accepting some variation in the underside finish. Carbon and FRP shows a single-piece carbon top with an FRP underside. FRP comes in black gelcoat on both faces and is the version to choose if you will paint the hood.

Does the hood fit every GD Fit?

Yes. The manufacturer lists the hood for every GD-series Fit, covering GD1, GD2, GD3 and GD4 with both the 1.3 and 1.5-liter engines. If you have changed engine bay components or the front clip, check clearances with your installer before fitting.

Has the hood been used in competition?

Yes. The carbon version was fitted to FIT-GT, the time attack Fit that set a time in the one-minute-flat bracket at Tsukuba Circuit. The manufacturer presents that car as proof of the cooling effect and the durability of the hood in real track use.

Description

J’s Racing Type-V Vented Hood for GD Honda Fit

J’s Racing’s Type-V Vented Hood for GD Fits is the hood the Osaka tuner ran on FIT-GT, its Tsukuba time attack car that lapped in the one-minute-flat range. Its V-shaped duct came out of repeated testing, and J’s Racing’s circuit trials showed it lowering coolant temperature by about 5 to 10 degrees Celsius by stopping heat from building up around the engine. Two-layer construction keeps it strong. The hood fits every GD-series Fit and keeps the factory catch and washer nozzles. It earns its keep on a car that sees summer track days or long hard drives; around town, the duct is more style than necessity.

Construction

Three versions share the V-duct. Carbon and FRP lays a single piece of carbon cloth over the top surface for a clean finish, with an FRP underside. Full Carbon uses carbon on both faces; J’s Racing notes that the underside finish varies from piece to piece because of how it is made, with no effect on performance. The FRP hood is black gelcoat on both faces and is built to the same strength as the factory panel.

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
