Are the Type-S Side Steps for AP1 cars sold as a pair?

Yes. The Type-S Side Steps for AP1 and AP2 cars are supplied as a left and right set for one car. Both the carbon and FRP options come as a pair, so there is no need to order each side separately. Paint is not included with either option.

Do they make the car wider?

No. The overall width of the car does not change. The side steps extend the effective body line outward at sill level, following the profile of the Type-S front bumper, but they stay within the factory width so no fender changes are needed to fit them.

What does the carbon option include?

The carbon option uses an FRP side skirt with a carbon under panel along the lower section, for one car as a left and right set. The FRP option is black gelcoat FRP throughout and is designed to be painted in body color. Choose by finish, since the shape is the same.

How do side steps add downforce?

Downforce from the underside depends on keeping pressure low beneath the car. The side steps reach down to the regulation lower limit and reduce the air drawn in from the sides, so the floor holds low pressure without the car being lowered to an extreme ride height.

Do they need the Type-S front bumper?

They are listed for every AP1 and AP2 S2000 and do not require it to mount. Their profile is shaped to match the Type-S front bumper, though, and the sealing effect along the sides is designed around that bumper, so they work and look best as part of the Type-S set.

Description

J’s Racing Type-S Side Steps for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

J’s Racing’s Type-S Side Steps for AP1 and AP2 S2000s were developed to win endurance races, and the FRP version was the homologated model for the 2004 Super Taikyu season, where J’s says about 80 percent of the Class 4 S2000s used it. They reach down to the lowest point the rules allowed, which helps the underside of the car generate downforce. The overall width of the car stays factory. They are aimed at owners who track their car and want the Type-S body to work as one piece; for pure styling, the effect may go unnoticed.

Design and Performance

Low pressure under the chassis depends on keeping the sills close to the road, yet dropping ride height to the limit brings its own problems. J’s solved this by giving the side steps the same profile as the Type-S front bumper. That effectively extends the body outward and cuts the air drawn in from the sides, so the floor holds its low pressure without slamming the car.

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
