The IPD 82mm Competition Plenum for the 981 Porsche Boxster GTS / S and Cayman GTS / S represents the pinnacle of an extensive R&D program aimed at maximizing performance for track-focused drivers. Available exclusively as a “Competition” model, this Plenum upgrades the factory 74mm throttle body to the larger 82mm throttle body from the 997 GT3. This enhancement has gained strong popularity among enthusiasts, offering significantly increased power and enhanced responsiveness. For those looking to push their 981’s performance to new heights, the IPD 82mm Competition Plenum improves both airflow and throttle response, making it an essential upgrade for dedicated driving enthusiasts.

Engineering

The 981 intake closely resembles the 987.2 intake, though Porsche introduced a few enhancements with the 981 model—most notably, sourcing outside air from both the driver and passenger intakes, unlike the single intake on the driver’s side in the 986, 987, and 987.2 models. IPD developed a custom silicone hose specifically designed to fit the larger 82mm throttle body, providing a significant boost in airflow. The 981 Plenum also features an internal dimpling effect that optimizes the boundary layer to maximize airflow. Like a dimpled golf ball that travels farther than a smooth one, controlled turbulent air in the dimpled surface reduces friction, enabling it to “tumble” more efficiently across the surface.

Power

The initial independent dyno test of the 981 Competition Plenum showed gains of 13 horsepower and 12 foot-pounds of torque at the wheels. The majority of these power gains begin around 3700rpm, continue through to redline, and are fully realized around 6500rpm. IPD’s performance improvements remain above factory power curves across the entire rev range. Noticeable power gains were also felt in the initial throttle response of the customer test vehicle, a sensation that was confirmed during dyno testing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do.
