What do the Side Muffler Bypass Pipes replace on a 997.1 GT3?

They replace the two factory side mufflers, which sit at the rear of the car behind the axle line, and leave the centre muffler and everything upstream untouched. That is where the 34 lb saving comes from, and it is why the change is felt in how the car turns as much as in how it sounds.

Will these fit a 997.2 GT3?

No. These are built for the 3.6L 997.1 cars from 2006 to 2009, and Fabspeed builds a separate set for the 3.8L 997.2. The two generations look similar and are frequently confused, so confirm the engine size and chassis code before ordering rather than going by the model name alone.

What is the difference between the Valved and Non-Valved configurations?

The Non-Valved pipes are a fixed straight-through path, always at full volume. The Valved pipes add Helical pneumatic butterfly valves that open and close to regulate gas flow and back-pressure, so the car can be quiet on a commute and fully open when you want it. Fabspeed publishes a guide for wiring the valves to the Homelink buttons.

How much weight do they save and how much power do they add?

Thirty-four pounds and, on Fabspeed's dyno, nine horsepower with ten lb-ft. The weight is the headline figure because of where it comes from, at the extreme rear of the car, and most owners describe the handling change before they describe the extra power. Results vary with the car and conditions.

Will they drone on the highway?

No. Fabspeed builds these to replicate a CUP car note without resonance or drone, and routing the gases through the retained factory centre muffler keeps cruising volume civil. The Valved configuration adds a further layer of control, staying composed with the valves closed and releasing the full note when they open.

Can I add a centre bypass later?

Yes, and many owners do exactly that. Fitting the side pipes first, living with them, then adding either a centre bypass pipe or the Mini Maxflo centre section is the common sequence on this chassis. Fabspeed also sells the side pipes and Mini Maxflo together as the Race Exhaust System for less than buying both separately.

Description

Fabspeed Side Muffler Bypass Pipes for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 & GT3 RS

Fabspeed’s Side Muffler Bypass Pipes for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS take thirty-four pounds off the back of the car that made the 997 GT3 a modern classic, and they take it from the worst possible place for it to be. The factory side mufflers are heavy, restrictive and hung behind the rear axle, where mass does the most damage to how a 911 changes direction; Fabspeed replaces them with straight-through T304 stainless pipes fabricated in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. The 3.6L Mezger picks up nine horsepower and ten lb-ft for the trouble, but the reason owners fit these is the voice: an aggressive CUP car note on the street, with no resonance and no drone. Choose the Non-Valved pipes for a fixed open system or the Valved version with Helical’s OEM-grade hardware, and the car becomes as loud as the moment calls for. On a 997.1 that is increasingly bought to be kept, this is a reversible change that flatters the engine rather than shouting over it.

The Side Muffler Bypass Pipes replace the factory side mufflers only; the rest of the factory exhaust system stays in place
These fit the 3.6L 997.1 cars. The 997.2 GT3 and GT3 RS take their own version of these pipes (FS.POR.9972GT3.SMBX), so check the chassis before ordering.
Power and torque figures are taken from a specific vehicle at ambient conditions. Results vary with the car, its state of tune and the conditions on the day.
The valves on the Valved configuration can be wired to the car’s Homelink buttons using Fabspeed’s Porsche Homelink Valvetronic connection install guide
For a deeper note at the other end of the system, add the Fabspeed Center Muffler Bypass Pipes for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 & GT3 RS (FS.POR.997GT3.CMBX), or the Center Mini Maxflo Performance Exhaust System (FS.POR.997GT3.CMAXX) for a muffled centre
These pipes are included in the Fabspeed Race Exhaust System for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 & GT3 RS (FS.POR.997GT3.RACEX), which pairs them with the Mini Maxflo centre section for 39 lbs total, and in the Fabspeed Performance Package (FS.POR.997GT3XXX). Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
