Why replace the factory centre muffler on a 997.1 GT3?

The factory unit is a known failure point on these cars, so for many owners this is a maintenance decision that happens to add performance rather than the reverse. The Center Muffler Bypass Pipe is T304 stainless built to outlast the car, and it adds flow, blends the banks and removes 10 lbs while it is there.

What does the talk-pipe design actually do?

It crosses and blends the exhaust from the right and left cylinder banks before the gases leave the car, which produces one smooth harmonised note rather than two thinner ones interfering with each other. It is the same principle as a crossover on a V engine, applied to a flat-six that never received one from the factory.

Does this pipe keep the Sport Mode button working?

Yes. Fabspeed states the Sport Mode control button is retained when this pipe is run with the factory side mufflers, so the car keeps its standard two-stage exhaust behaviour. That matters to owners who want a real change in tone without losing the ability to quieten the car from the cabin.

Which tips are included, and can I keep my factory tips?

It ships with 4-inch Deluxe Dual Style tips in Polished Stainless, Carbon Fiber or Satin Black, selected at checkout. Owners who prefer the factory look can choose the re-use option and fit their existing tips, which lowers the price of the configuration by several hundred dollars.

Will it fit a 997.2 GT3?

No. This is built for the 3.6L 997.1 cars from 2006 to 2009, and Fabspeed builds a separate pipe for the 3.8L 997.2. The two generations look alike and are frequently confused, so confirm the chassis code and engine size before ordering rather than going by the model name.

How does it compare with the side muffler bypass pipes?

This works the centre of the system for a deeper, more aggressive note and saves 10 lbs. The side bypass pipes work the rear for a smoother take on the factory note and save 34 lbs. They address different positions and many owners eventually run both, usually starting with whichever suits the change they want most.

Description

Fabspeed Center Muffler Bypass Pipe for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 & GT3 RS

Fabspeed’s Center Muffler Bypass Pipe for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS replaces the one part of these cars that owners discuss on forums more than any other: the factory centre muffler, heavy, restrictive and well known for failing. Fabspeed’s answer, fabricated in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is a talk-pipe that crosses and blends the gases from the right and left banks into a single smooth voice rather than two thinner ones, mounted through a simplified two-bolt system that replaces the argument the factory unit puts up on a lift. Ten pounds come off the rear of the car, throttle response sharpens, and the 3.6L Mezger gains depth and authority without becoming something you regret on a long drive. Sport Mode still works, tips are included, and the part is built to outlast the car rather than join the service schedule.

The Center Muffler Bypass Pipe replaces the factory centre muffler only; the side mufflers and the rest of the factory exhaust stay in place
This fits the 3.6L 997.1 cars. The 997.2 GT3 and GT3 RS take their own version of this pipe (FS.POR.9972GT3.CMBX), so check the chassis before ordering.
Sport Mode control retained when this pipe is run with the factory side mufflers
Power and torque figures are taken from a specific vehicle at ambient conditions. Results vary with the car, its state of tune and the conditions on the day.
For a bigger weight saving at the other end of the system, add the Fabspeed Side Muffler Bypass Pipes for 997.1 Porsche 911 GT3 & GT3 RS *(FS.POR.997GT3.SMBX)*, which remove a further 34 lbs
If you prefer a centre section with mufflers rather than a bypass, the Fabspeed Center Mini Maxflo Performance Exhaust System (FS.POR.997GT3.CMAXX) is the alternative for this chassis

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
