SOUL Performance’s Exhaust Package for 992.1 Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, also available for the 991.2 Porsche 911 Speedster, adds a refined layer of aggression and excitement to the platform, with a higher-pitched, smoother sound that stays streetable at idle and lights up on demand at wide-open throttle. The package is roughly 17lbs lighter than the factory Competition System, designed and built in-house at SOUL’s Willow Grove, PA facility, and backed by SOUL’s industry-leading Lifetime Warranty for both street and track use.

Headers

Replacing the heavy, restrictive factory headers is central to unlocking more performance. A full system replacement simplifies the bulky factory manifold assembly and its large 7-5/8in connection to the factory rear muffler into a more efficient design. A flange optimization over SOUL’s previous-generation GT3 Competition Headers removes the costly OEM clamps and donut gaskets required by the 991-generation connection point in favor of a more efficient v-band connection, resulting in improved exhaust flow and overall performance.
Even an engineering masterpiece like the GT3 from Porsche is equipped with exhaust manifolds that have certain restrictions in terms of primary tubing length, runner diameter, and merge collection efficiency, due largely to mass production considerations and compromises made for emissions and sound restrictions. SOUL Performance Products has focused on refining the interface between the flange and primary tubes, employing smooth-radius large-diameter bends, and implementing performance-oriented collectors with merge spikes. Rather than a slip-on merge collector that risks exhaust leaks, SOUL designed a high-flow billet collector using advanced CAD and CNC technologies that allows for optimized runner length and reduces the need for multiple welds. The billet CNC head flanges enable a more efficient transition from the exhaust ports into the runners while adding extra strength in a high-stress area, minimizing the chances of cracking during repeated and demanding track use.

Rear Exhaust Section

Due to the restricted space underneath the vehicle, SOUL Performance Products devised an intricate solution that loops the exhaust to keep the catalysts properly positioned after the headers, optimizing exhaust velocity. A muffler proved to be the most effective way to reduce drone below 3,000rpm while delivering a captivating touring-level sound with reduced cabin presence.
With the valves open, exhaust flows freely through 3in piping and an x-pipe that merges the flow for a higher-pitched, smooth sound with optimal flow characteristics. With the valves closed, exhaust is directed through secondary flow path piping and a bespoke SOUL muffler; the internal design has little to no restriction, using straight-through perforated piping that allows exhaust gases to escape and become muffled in the surrounding packing material, with an internal x-pipe that merges the flow smoothly. These characteristics reduce and smooth out drone in the sub-3,000rpm range while enhancing the higher-pitched note in both the valves-closed and valves-open conditions.
This system incorporates several distinctive characteristics related to the secondary flow path that enters the muffler. The flow path when the valves are open is not solely restricted to the external x-pipe; some exhaust flow still passes through the secondary flow path even with the valves open, smoothing the tone and minimizing drone even in valves-open mode without the need for additional resonators or mufflers.
The catted and free-flow sections of the exhaust system are designed to be interchangeable. If you prefer to minimize the chance of a check engine light, the 300-cell catalytic converters also slightly tone down the exhaust sound; if you want to maximize performance on track, the free-flow section unleashes the full potential of the platform. SOUL also incorporates a tip plate, similar to the style used on the 991 GT3, allowing you to switch between tip assemblies or styles.

Valve Control

The exhaust valves are equipped with electronic actuators mounted on a freely moving mechanical valve body. Factory programming keeps the valves closed until 4,000rpm, then gradually opens them from 4,000-5,000rpm, reaching fully open at 5,000rpm. For those seeking full valve override so the valves are 100% open at wide-open throttle regardless of rpm, ECU tuning is available to achieve this.
The valves on this platform have taken a notable amount of R&D, as relocating or disconnecting them can cause check engine lights and performance issues. The actuators themselves maintain tension on the valve bodies, so they can’t simply be removed to default the valves open via spring pressure like previous vacuum-actuated OEM valves. The included hardware ensures proper valve operation and prevents any chance of issues.

This system was crafted to deliver an enhanced, captivating sound experience across driving conditions. Enjoy more presence during relaxed driving alongside an aggressive exhaust note summoned by your right foot. The x-pipes blend exhaust flow from both banks, while the muffler’s sound-attenuating design contributes to a higher-pitched sound suited to a GT car, improving mechanical tone and overall aggressiveness.
The system offers a higher-pitched, more refined sound in the low end than a system without a muffler, staying comfortable under 4,000rpm with a reasonable level of cabin presence and drone.
There is a noticeable delta of sound level in and outside the car, with the ability to fly under the radar with valves closed during casual driving. With valves closed, volume is increased by a refined amount, smoother and more exciting than the dull, hollow factory exhaust note.
The note becomes assertive at wide-open throttle as the valves begin opening at 4,000rpm and reach fully open at 5,000rpm, offering a streetable, on-demand level of volume compared to a muffler-less system that stays loud at all times.
