Is a tune required for the Black TMIC for Subaru Ascent?

No. COBB says tuning changes are not required to support this intercooler. It runs safely on the factory Subaru calibration and is also compatible with COBB Stage 1 Off The Shelf maps, so an Accessport is only needed if you want to add Stage 1.

Can I install this intercooler on an Ascent registered in California?

Yes. The source lists CARB Executive Order numbers D-660-119, D-660-154, D-660-155, D-660-252 and D-660-301, so the part is legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles in all 50 states when installed following the COBB application guide. Keep a copy of the EO with the vehicle for smog checks.

Does a top mount give up cooling compared with a front mount?

A front mount can offer more total cooling capacity, but its longer piping adds lag. COBB designed this top mount for owners who want more airflow and lower charge temperatures without slowing throttle response, a balance that suits daily driving and highway merging.

Which model years and markets are covered?

COBB confirms the 2019 through 2026 Subaru Ascent with the CVT, US market vehicles only. All of those years share the same turbocharged engine and transmission pairing, so one part number covers the span. Check with us before ordering for an Ascent built for another market.

Black or Silver, which finish should I choose?

Pick by appearance alone. The Black TMIC for Subaru Ascent and the Silver version use the same Garrett core, end tanks, Thrust Tunnel, couplers and CARB Executive Order numbers. Black blends into the engine bay and matches the wrinkle black Thrust Tunnel; silver gives a brighter look.

Description

COBB Tuning Black TMIC for Subaru Ascent

COBB Tuning’s Black TMIC for Subaru Ascent is a top mount intercooler for the owner who wants cooler charge air and a darker engine bay, fitting a Garrett core of 20 x 7 x 4 in with bespoke cast aluminum end tanks in place of the factory unit. COBB quotes a 30 percent airflow gain over stock. The cooler stays where Subaru put it, on top of the engine, so the short charge path and quick response of the original layout survive the swap. It is CARB legal and needs no new calibration. A front mount buys more capacity, but at a cost in lag most Ascent drivers would not accept.

Installation and Tuning

Heat soak is the enemy of a small turbocharged engine in a heavy vehicle. The larger core raises flow, and the included COBB Thrust Tunnel mounts to the factory hood ducting so air entering the scoop is pushed through the core instead of spilling around it. The kit is a direct replacement for the OEM intercooler: the inlet uses the stock charge pipe and its o-ring seal, and the stock o-ring seals the outlet over the throttle body inlet. COBB states it runs safely on the stock calibration or a COBB Stage 1 Off The Shelf map.

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
