Will the COBB Tuning Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust for GR fit a GV sedan?

No. COBB confirms this system for hatchback bodies only, meaning the 2011 to 2014 Impreza WRX hatch and the 2008 to 2014 Impreza WRX STI hatch. The four-door GV sedan has a different rear bumper and exhaust routing, so a sedan owner needs a system designed for that body instead.

Does this cat-back require an Accessport or a tune?

No. COBB does not list tuning as a requirement for this exhaust, and it connects behind the factory catalytic converters. It runs on the stock calibration. If you later add the COBB 3 inch stainless downpipe or other breathing changes, those parts are the point where an Accessport map becomes necessary.

Can I keep my factory downpipe?

Yes. COBB states that fitment is correct with either the Subaru factory downpipe or the COBB 3 inch stainless downpipe. Many owners install the Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust for GR first on the stock downpipe, then add the COBB downpipe and a matching Accessport map later as the build progresses.

How loud is this exhaust?

COBB says the straight-through muffler keeps sound output below SAE standards, which is its stated design target for street use. The company does not publish a decibel reading for this system. The 24 inch wide canister and its twin muffling chambers do the work of keeping the note controlled while the pipes stay large.

Is this exhaust emissions legal?

COBB classifies this system as not an emissions-related part and states that it can therefore be used on emission controlled vehicles. It mounts downstream of the catalytic converters and leaves the factory emissions hardware in place. Owners in areas with strict exhaust noise rules should still confirm local sound limits.

Description

COBB Tuning 3-Inch Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust for GR Subaru WRX and WRX STI Hatchback

COBB Tuning’s Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust for GR hatchbacks replaces everything behind the catalytic converters with 3 inch, 304 stainless steel tubing feeding a single 24 inch wide straight-through muffler and four polished tips. It is the sensible exhaust for a GR owner who wants a fuller note and less back-pressure without moving to titanium money, and it bolts to the stock downpipe or to COBB’s own 3 inch unit. Owners chasing the lowest weight should look at the titanium version, and sedan owners need a different system altogether.

Design and Flow

Gas enters the Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust for GR hatch through 3 inch tubing and arrives at a center inlet on the muffler canister. Inside, a reversed Y merge divides the flow into two separate muffling chambers, one on each side, and a 2.5 inch outlet leaves each side symmetrically before splitting to the quad tips. The straight path means fewer bends and less restriction than a chambered design.

Features

Straight-through muffler design for lower back-pressure
3 inch main tubing diameter
24 inch wide muffler canister with center inlet and reversed Y merge
Twin 2.5 inch outlets exiting symmetrically
Quad polished tips with etched COBB logos, sized to fill the factory bumper cut-outs
304 stainless steel construction throughout
TIG welded joints, made in the USA
Direct replacement for the OEM exhaust
Compatible with the factory downpipe or the COBB 3 inch stainless downpipe

Applications

Subaru Impreza WRX: GR | 2011-2014 | Hatchback, Manual, USDM and ADM
Subaru Impreza WRX STI: GR | 2008-2014 | Hatchback, Manual, USDM and ADM

Notes

Fits GR hatchback models only; it does not fit the GV sedan
COBB confirms manual transmission vehicles only for this exhaust
Replaces the exhaust from the catalytic converters back; the downpipe is not included
COBB classifies this exhaust as a non-emissions-related part that can be used on emission controlled vehicles
COBB does not list a tuning requirement for this exhaust

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
