Which bore size should I choose for the Boost Logic Headgasket Kit for R35?

Choose 96mm for a standard bore VR38DETT and 98mm only when the block has been taken out to a larger bore. The Headgasket Kit for R35 uses 96mm as its standard size, and Boost Logic can supply custom sizes. Confirm the finished bore with the engine builder before ordering so the fire ring matches the cylinder.

Should I choose copper or composite?

Boost Logic offers both materials at the same price and does not publish a comparison between them. Its product text describes a composite gasket built for the pressures and temperatures of turbocharging, with copper offered as the alternative. The choice is best made with the engine builder who will assemble and torque the engine.

What does the fire ring do?

The fire ring is a metal ring around each combustion chamber opening that seals the gases inside the cylinder. Boost Logic uses 96mm fire rings in this kit to keep compression consistent and stop combustion gases escaping past the gasket under high boost, which is the condition this kit was designed to survive.

How thick is the gasket?

Boost Logic lists a thickness of .040 inch for the gasket in this kit. Gasket thickness affects the compression ratio and the clearance between piston and head, so the engine builder should include it in the build calculations, especially when the kit is combined with aftermarket pistons, milled heads or a resurfaced block.

Is this kit only for heavily modified engines?

It is intended for turbocharged VR38DETT engines running high boost, which is the use Boost Logic designed it for. A stock engine can take it during a rebuild, but the kit is aimed at owners raising boost or upgrading turbos who want more sealing margin. It fits the 2009 and later Nissan R35 GT-R.

Description

Boost Logic Fire Ring Headgasket Kit for R35 Nissan GT-R

Boost Logic’s Fire Ring Headgasket Kit for R35 Nissan GT-R is a head sealing kit for VR38DETT engines running high boost, built around 96mm fire rings that hold combustion pressure inside each cylinder. Boost Logic specifies a .040-inch gasket thickness and sells the kit in copper or composite, in the standard 96mm size or an optional 98mm size for engines with a larger bore. It is an engine-build part for turbo upgrades and big boost, where head gasket failure is a known risk; a GT-R left at factory boost was not what Boost Logic designed it around.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
