The BBS FI-R Center Lock wheel in Gloss Platinum is the front corner BBS built for the broadest run of centerlock 991s, from the GT3 to the Turbo to the 911 R. BBS has built race wheels since the 1970s, and the FI-R uses the same multi-stage die-forging: a single billet of aluminum pressed into a monoblock whose grain structure follows the finished shape of the wheel rather than running straight through it. At 17.44lbs this is the lightest wheel in the Porsche FI-R program, and on a car that steers as precisely as a 991 GT3 the difference shows up the first time the wheel is turned. Gloss Platinum is the bright machined finish, which on a car this serious reads as a statement of what the wheel is rather than how it looks.

Forged Construction

BBS die-forges the FI-R under up to 18 million pounds of force, starting from a billet of 6000 series aluminum or the company’s own magnesium alloy depending on the application. Forging closes the porosity that casting leaves behind and aligns the grain along the load paths the wheel actually sees, so the rim section can be made thinner without giving up strength. The spokes, hub face and barrel are one continuous piece of metal, with no bolts, no welds and no joint to fatigue.

Weight and Design

Each cross spoke carries a relief hole that takes material out of a low-load area, and the back faces are milled to the minimum section the structure needs. 17.44lbs is a remarkable figure for a 20 inch wheel, and at the front axle it is felt more directly than anywhere else on the car: less gyroscopic resistance to a steering input, less rotating mass for the brakes to arrest, and less unsprung mass for the dampers to manage over a kerb.

Centerlock Fitment

This is a true centerlock wheel, machined for the single-nut hub Porsche fits to the GT cars and the Turbo rather than adapted from a five-lug pattern. The 84mm center bore locates on the factory centerlock spigot and the +52mm offset suits every application it is listed for. The rear it pairs with depends on the car: the GT3 and 911 R take the 20×12 +44, while the 991.2 Turbo takes the 20×11.5 +54.

What does the BBS FI-R Center Lock wheel in 20×9 +52 fit? It is the front axle fitment for the 991.1 Porsche 911 GT3 from 2013 to 2016, the 991.2 GT3 from 2017 to 2019, the 2016 911 R, and the 991.2 911 Turbo and Turbo S from 2017 to 2019. All of those left the factory with centerlock hubs. It will not mount to a five-lug Porsche hub.
Why does one front wheel cover so many cars? Porsche used the same centerlock hub and the same front track across the GT and Turbo variants of the 991, so BBS only needed one front. The rears differ, because the GT3 and 911 R run a 20×12 +44 while the 991.2 Turbo runs a 20×11.5 +54. Confirm the rear against the specific car.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
