The AWE Tuning Touring Edition Axle-Back Exhaust for the BMW F22 M235i, and M240i replaces the factory rear section with a straight-through muffler design that improves exhaust flow while keeping the sound controlled. It incorporates AWE’s 180 Technology to reduce drone by targeting specific frequencies, allowing the turbocharged inline-six to produce a deeper, more defined tone under throttle without adding constant cabin noise during cruising. As an axle-back system, it retains the stock mid-pipe, making installation straightforward while still delivering a noticeable change in exhaust character. The 102mm diamond black tips provide a more prominent, darker finish at the rear, and the system is engineered to align with OEM mounting points for proper fitment and consistent clearances.

Touring Edition Exhaust

• The Touring Edition Exhaust balances refinement and performance with a 3” T304L stainless steel downpipe-back design, offering straight-pipe performance, a deep, controlled exhaust note, and completely drone-free cruising at highway speeds. It includes an integrated frontpipe, custom midpipe resonator, and AWE’s patented 180 Technology® drone-canceling system, delivering a full-bodied, rasp-free K20 soundtrack. Under boost or heavy throttle, it produces an aggressive, lively tone, while at highway speeds the cabin remains quiet, combining both excitement and comfort. Backed by AWE’s No CEL and Perfect Fitment Guarantees, the system channels exhaust gases through 180 Technology-equipped resonators, where sound waves pass through strategically placed ports into reflection chambers. The precise timing of when these reflected waves rejoin the main flow creates a 180-degree out-of-phase wave that cancels unwanted frequencies—all within a straight-through design, providing maximum power without drone.

What is 180 Technology?

• AWE Tuning’s patented 180 Technology operates by directing exhaust gases through a resonator containing strategically positioned ports and reflection chambers. As the gases move through, the sound waves bounce off the chamber walls. By precisely adjusting the size and placement of the ports and chambers for each vehicle, AWE engineers control when the reflected waves rejoin the main exhaust flow. This creates a 180-degree out-of-phase wave that cancels unwanted frequencies.
• 180 Technology is not a “one-size-fits-all” system—each resonator is specifically tuned to the acoustics of the vehicle it’s designed for, ensuring consistent, accurate sound.

Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system comes with three 4.5-inch double-walled, slash-cut tips in either chrome silver or diamond black, each stamped with the AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, allowing you to set their depth into the bumper to your preference.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During development, AWE closely studied the factory valve’s performance across different driving conditions. They found that the exhaust volume remains largely consistent between modes that use the valve. The valve stays closed only in Comfort mode, opening once a specific throttle threshold is reached. In Sport and Sport+ modes, it remains open, with Sport+ adding ECU-controlled burbles. In the stock configuration, exhaust flows through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce cabin noise and minimize drone-prone frequencies, and through the center path when the valve is open.

Conversion Kits

• AWE designed the system for easy conversion between Track and Touring Editions, allowing interior sound levels to be adjusted whenever desired.
