The AWE Tuning Touring Edition Axle-Back Exhaust for the BMW M2 M235i and M240i replaces the rear section of the factory system with a straight-through muffler design that improves exhaust flow while maintaining a controlled sound profile. It uses AWE’s 180 Technology to target and reduce drone at cruising speeds, allowing the turbocharged inline-six to produce a deeper, more refined tone under throttle without adding constant cabin noise. As an axle-back setup, it retains the factory mid-pipe, making installation simpler while still offering a noticeable change in sound character. What is 180 Technology?

• AWE Tuning’s patented 180 Technology® works by directing exhaust gases into a resonator equipped with strategically placed ports leading into reflection chambers. As the sound waves travel through the chambers, they bounce off the walls, and by carefully adjusting the size and placement of these ports and chambers for each vehicle, AWE’s engineers control exactly when the waves rejoin the main exhaust flow. This precise timing creates a 180-degree out-of-phase wave that cancels unwanted frequencies. Unlike “one-size-fits-all” solutions, 180 Technology® is tailored to each vehicle’s unique acoustics, ensuring consistent, perfect sound every time. Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system comes with three 4.5” double-walled, slash-cut tips, offered in either chrome silver or diamond black, each embossed with the AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, letting you customize how far they extend into the bumper to match your personal style.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During research and development, AWE thoroughly analyzed the factory valve’s behavior across different driving conditions. They found that volume remains largely consistent between modes that engage the valve. The valve only stays closed in Comfort mode, opening once a specific throttle threshold is reached. In Sport and Sport+ modes, it remains open, with Sport+ adding ECU-controlled burbles. In the stock setup, exhaust flows through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to minimize cabin volume and reduce drone-prone frequencies, and through the center path when the valve is open.

Conversion Kits

• AWE has designed the system for easy conversion between Track and Touring Editions, allowing interior volume to be adjusted whenever desired.
