AWE Tuning Non-Resonated Touring Edition Exhaust – Quad Diamond Black Tips for G20 BMW M340i

The AWE Tuning Non-Resonated Touring Edition Exhaust for the G20 BMW M340i replaces the factory cat-back with a larger-diameter, straight-through design while removing the mid-pipe resonators to further reduce restriction and sharpen exhaust response. It still incorporates AWE’s 180 Technology at the rear to manage drone, so despite the more open mid-section, it maintains a controlled sound during steady cruising. Under load, the turbocharged inline-six develops a deeper, more pronounced tone with added edge compared to the resonated version, making the engine’s character more noticeable without becoming overly harsh. The quad diamond black tips give the rear a darker, more aggressive finish, and the system is built to follow OEM mounting points for proper alignment and straightforward installation.

• As exhaust gases exit the K20 engine and flow into an AWE 180 Technology equipped resonator, they pass through strategically located ports, and into reflection chambers. Sound waves, carried by these exhaust gasses, bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. By controlling the size and location of the ports and the chambers, AWE can also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies. What is 180 Technology?

Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system is equipped with three 4.5” double-walled, slash-cut tips, available in chrome silver or diamond black, each featuring a stamped AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, allowing for customization of their depth into the bumper based on personal preference.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During research and development, AWE conducted an extensive evaluation of the factory valve’s behavior under various driving conditions. They determined that there is no significant change in volume between modes requiring a valve. The valve remains closed only in comfort mode, opening upon reaching a throttle threshold. In Sport and Sport+ modes, the valve stays open, with Sport+ introducing burbles from the ECU. In the stock configuration, the exhaust routes through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce interior volume and drone-prone frequencies, and through the center when the valve is open.
