Will the Super Lock LSD for GSE21 fit the IS250?

OS Giken lists part number TY391-HA for the GSE21 IS350 only. The GSE20 IS250 uses a different engine and drivetrain specification, so this unit is not listed for it. IS250 owners should ask Bulletproof Automotive to confirm whether a matching OS Giken unit exists before ordering, rather than assume the GSE21 part will fit their car.

What does a clutch-type LSD change on the IS350?

With an open or traction-control-managed differential, the V6 sends torque to whichever rear tire has less grip and the stability system then brakes it. A clutch-type LSD links the two rear wheels through friction plates, so torque keeps reaching the loaded tire as the car exits a corner. The result is stronger drive and less intervention from the electronics.

Is the OS Giken Super Lock quiet enough for a daily driver?

Yes. OS Giken designs the Super Lock around a low preload that still progresses to full lock, and its Japanese catalogue describes it as one of the quietest and easiest LSDs to live with in city driving. That matters in a car like the IS350, where cabin refinement is part of the reason it was bought.

How does the Super Lock LSD for GSE21 compare with the TCD?

Both are OS Giken differentials for the GSE21. The Super Lock LSD for GSE21 cars uses the standard clutch design at a lower price. The TCD adds the TCD disc specification, which OS Giken says improves oil cooling and gives even smoother operation, and it costs more. For street and occasional track use the Super Lock covers most owners.

Can the differential be retuned later?

Yes. OS Giken retunes new and used Super Lock units in-house. Thicker or thinner cone springs change initial torque, stiffer or softer pressure ring springs change how quickly full lock arrives, and a different pressure ring and iron cross change the ramp angles. That lets the unit follow the car if power or tires change later.

Description

OS Giken Super Lock LSD for GSE21 Lexus IS350

OS Giken’s Super Lock LSD for GSE21 Lexus IS350 gives the 2GR-FSE sedan a clutch-type rear differential built around the patented pressure ring OS Giken began developing in Okayama in 1997. The 3.5-liter V6 makes 306 hp in US trim, plenty to spin an unloaded inside rear tire on a damp or bumpy exit, and the Super Lock answers by locking progressively as the throttle opens instead of leaving the brake-based stability system to rein the car in. It belongs on an IS350 that sees track days, autocross or canyon roads; for a commuter that never leaves the freeway, the factory differential is enough.

Design and Performance

Instead of a few plates squeezed beside the side gears, the Super Lock carries its friction plates on splines that run through them, which lets the case hold up to twice the plate count of rival designs. With that much plate area the unit can run a light preload around town and still build smoothly to full lock under power. Gears are raw-forged, the case is cut from one billet, and all parts are chemically heat treated.

Features

Progressive lock-up from the patented OS Giken pressure ring
Through-side-gear plate splines that double the usable friction plate count
Light preload for quiet daily manners in a luxury sedan
Single-billet case and raw-forged gears
Friction discs machined on both faces at once to limit warpage
Initial torque, lock timing and ramp angles retunable by OS Giken

Applications

Lexus IS350: GSE21 | 2006-2013 | 3.5L 2GR-FSE V6

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
