Is this a complete coilover kit?

No. It is a single rear damper for a Model 3 already fitted with a TEIN Flex Z kit. Under the TEIN replacement approach, the new damper body goes in while the existing upper mount, lower bracket and spring are reused. Confirm the exact contents with BA.

Why replace the damper rather than rebuild it?

Flex Z dampers have a sealed, crimped shell, so they cannot be overhauled. TEIN instead supplies a new damper body. That body can be specified with customised damping and stroke within limits, which gives the owner a chance to alter the setting at the same time as the repair.

Which Model 3 does the Flex Z Rear Replacement Damper fit?

TEIN lists the Flex Z Rear Replacement Damper for the Tesla Model 3 from 2017. The distributor data does not say whether it suits rear-drive or dual-motor cars, and TEIN sells separate Flex Z kits for each, so BA confirms the match before ordering.

Can the damping be adjusted?

Yes. Like the dampers in the complete Flex Z kits, it has a 16-level adjuster that changes compression and rebound together. With an optional EDFC it gains 32 levels, and TEIN recommends EDFC for the Model 3 rear because the adjusters are hard to reach by hand.

How long will it take to arrive?

TEIN builds this damper to order, so the lead time varies with TEIN production and BA confirms an estimate when the order is placed. Once ordered it cannot be cancelled or returned, so it is worth confirming drivetrain fitment with BA first.

Description

TEIN Flex Z Rear Replacement Damper for Tesla Model 3

TEIN’s Flex Z Rear Replacement Damper for Tesla Model 3 is a single rear damper for an owner who already runs a TEIN Flex Z kit. Because the Flex Z damper is sealed by crimping, it cannot be overhauled; when one wears out or is damaged, TEIN’s answer is a new damper body, with the upper mount, lower bracket and spring from that corner carried over. It is not a complete kit, and on its own it will not lower a car on factory suspension.

How Replacement Works

Flex Z dampers are twin-tube, with oil and gas chambers that are not in series, which provides the stroke and low friction behind the comfortable ride of the kit. TEIN’s replacement route also lets the new body be customised for damping and stroke within limits, so renewing a worn corner can double as a chance to change the setting. On the Model 3 Flex Z kits, TEIN recommends EDFC for the rear.

Features

Rear damper for an existing TEIN Flex Z kit on the Model 3

ADVANCE Needle valve behind the adjuster, as in the complete Flex Z kits
Damping and stroke can be customised within limits through TEIN
Upper mount, lower bracket and spring from the old corner are reused

About TEIN

TEIN was founded in Yokohama, Japan, in 1985 by former rally mechanic Hakaru Ichino, joined soon after by driver Yoshio Fujimoto. The team reached the World Rally Championship in 1989, and in 1995 Fujimoto won the Safari Rally in a Toyota Celica GT-FOUR, the first Japanese driver to do so. TEIN launched its own dampers in 1990 and came to supply around 80 percent of the dampers in the N1 Taikyu endurance series. TEIN USA has served the Americas from Downey, California, since 2001.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
