What is different about the black EcoBoost Mustang Intercooler?

The finish is the stated difference. Turn 14 lists the black EcoBoost Mustang Intercooler as 857564-6002 with the same 600 horsepower rating and Mustang 2.3L fitment as the 857564-6001 shown on the Garrett product page. Turn 14 gives its core as 21 by 5.32 by 5.4 inches.

Does it fit only the 2.3L EcoBoost?

Yes. Garrett lists this intercooler for 2015 and later Ford Mustang models with the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, and it is not listed for the V6 or V8 cars. For a 2024 or later Mustang, contact us to confirm fitment before ordering, since the Garrett listing does not name those years.

Can I keep my factory hoses and clamps?

Yes. Garrett designed the 2.3L Mustang cooler to reuse the factory hoses, clamps and bolts, and the slightly elongated ports give the hoses a firmer grip without stopping OEM hoses or aftermarket charge pipes from fitting. Plan on roughly two and a half hours with ordinary hand tools, per Garrett.

How does it handle heat soak?

Better than the factory part in Garrett testing. The stock cooler hit its peak outlet temperature of 183 degrees on the fourth dyno pull, while the Garrett design needed nine pulls to saturate and peaked at 154 degrees. That gap is what keeps a tuned 2.3L making consistent power from run to run.

Is a 600 horsepower intercooler sensible for a mild tune?

Yes. The rating is capacity rather than a target, so a mildly tuned 2.3L uses only part of it, and the margin covers a bigger turbocharger later. Garrett measured 237 horsepower against 216 with the factory cooler on its test car, so the benefit shows well below the limit.

Description

Garrett EcoBoost Mustang Intercooler for 2015+ Ford Mustang 2.3L, Black

Garrett’s EcoBoost Mustang Intercooler in black, part 857564-6002, is the dark-finish version of Garrett’s direct-fit upgrade for the 2015 and later Mustang with the 2.3L EcoBoost. Turn 14 lists it with a 21 x 5.32 x 5.4 in core and the same 600 horsepower rating as the 857564-6001 shown on Garrett’s product page, and the finish is the stated difference between them. Choose it if a black cooler suits the car better; buyers who simply want the original part number Garrett publishes should take the 857564-6001. Either way, it earns its place on a tuned 2.3L and does little for a stock car that is never pushed.

Design

Garrett builds the 2.3L Mustang cooler around an aluminum core with an advanced offset fin design and vacuum brazed bar-and-plate construction, which it credits for thermal and fatigue performance. CFD-optimized cast aluminum end tanks reduce recirculation, and Garrett quotes up to 30 percent less pressure drop and up to a 40 degree drop in charge air temperature for the assembly.

Features

Black finish, listed by Turn 14 as the black version of Garrett’s 2.3L Mustang intercooler
Core 60 percent larger than the factory unit, per Garrett

The EcoBoost Mustang Intercooler fits the stock location with the factory hoses, clamps and bolts

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
