How do I know whether my car needs the early or late Type-S Vented Hood for EK9 models?

Check the build date and frame number. The early Type-S Vented Hood for EK9 models suits cars built up to August 1998 with frame numbers 1000001 to 1100000. The late version suits cars from September 1998 with frame numbers 1100001 to 1299999. If you are unsure, send us the frame number before ordering.

Are hood pins and the vent mesh included?

No. The hood uses the factory hood catch, so it can be fitted without pins, but the manufacturer recommends adding hood pins for sports driving and they are not included. The aluminum mesh for the vents is also sold separately, so add it to your order if you want the openings covered.

How much lighter is it than the stock hood?

The manufacturer lists the stock hood at 14 kg and this hood at about 7 kg, roughly half the weight. That figure is published for the FRP and Carbon and FRP versions. No separate weight is given for Full Carbon, so we do not quote one for it.

Which material should I choose?

Choose FRP if you plan to paint the hood to match the body, since it comes in black gelcoat on both faces. Carbon and FRP shows a carbon top surface with an FRP underside. Full Carbon uses carbon on both faces and costs the most.

Is the hood a direct fit on a US-market EK Civic?

No, the manufacturer lists only the EK9. Each version is matched to early or late Japanese-market Civic Type R production by frame number, and US-market EK cars are outside that list. Test fit any hood before paint, and ask us to compare your car against the listed frame ranges before ordering.

Description

J’s Racing Type-S Vented Hood for EK9 Honda Civic Type R

J’s Racing’s Type-S Vented Hood for EK9 Civic Type R owners is the Osaka tuner’s Aero Bonnet Type-S, shaped so that air flowing over the top of the hood becomes turbulent and pulls hot air out of the engine bay. J’s Racing says this reliably lowers coolant and intake air temperatures compared with the factory hood. The two-layer construction keeps strength equal to stock, while the quoted weight is about 7 kg against 14 kg for the original part. It makes the most sense on an EK9 that runs track days or hot summer laps; a garage-kept show car gains mainly the look.

Features

Calculated surface shape that draws engine bay heat out through the vents
Two-layer construction for strength equal to the factory hood

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
