How does the 421 Exhaust Manifold for EK9 differ from the Spoon 4in2?

The 4in2 replaces only the primary pipes and keeps the factory 2in1 section. The 421 Exhaust Manifold for EK9 is a full 4-2-1 design with its own collector, tuned for a balance of peak power and torque, and it is also registered for the later 98 specification Integra Type R.

Does it fit a 1998 to 2001 Integra Type R?

Yes. Spoon lists the DC2 and DB8 Type R from late 1995 to mid 2001, covering both the 96 and 98 specification cars, including the DC2 race base model. That wider coverage is one reason to choose this manifold over the 4in2 for a later Integra.

Can one header fit the B16B and the B18C?

Yes. Spoon registers this single part number for the EK9 Civic Type R with the 1.6L B16B and for the DC2 and DB8 Integra Type R with the 1.8L B18C, all with the 5-speed manual. There is no separate Civic or Integra version.

Is hardware included?

Yes. All required hardware comes with the manifold, according to Go Tuning, which distributes Spoon parts in the US. Spoon lists the part at 10 kg and ships it in a box of 72 x 37 x 43 cm, so plan for a bulky but manageable carton.

Will the car feel weaker at low rpm?

No. Spoon designed the manifold to leave low-speed torque unchanged and to add strength at high rpm, using the collector bulge and unequal runners to improve scavenging. Spoon publishes no dyno data, so BA quotes no figure, but the stated aim is a better top end without a soft bottom end.

Description

Spoon Sports 421 Exhaust Manifold for EK9 Honda Civic Type R and DC2 / DB8 Integra Type R

The Spoon Sports 421 Exhaust Manifold for EK9 Civic Type R and the DC2 and DB8 Integra Type R is the B-series header Spoon developed for owners who want the most from the B16B and B18C without losing the low-speed drive that makes them usable on the road. Spoon tested pipe diameters, merge order and other variables in more combinations than it could count, on the engine bench, the flow bench and the road, until power and torque were in balance and the weight was down. The answer was a bulge in the collector and runner lengths that are deliberately a little unequal. Low-speed torque stays as it was, while at high rpm the manifold helps draw exhaust from the ports so the cylinders fill more completely. Unlike the Spoon 4in2 for these cars, which keeps the factory 2in1, the 421 is a full 4-2-1 design and covers the later 98 specification Integra as well. It is the header for a Type R that is driven hard and often.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
