Does the Gusset Plate Set for AP2 fit a 2004 or 2005 US S2000?

Yes. Go Tuning lists the Gusset Plate Set for AP2 and late AP1 for US 2004 and 2005 cars as well as 2006 to 2009 models. Spoon groups the late AP1 from the 130 series with the AP2 because they share the revised mount area, so the 2.2L US cars take this version.

My car already has a factory reinforcement plate. Do I still need this?

Only for hard use. Honda added that plate on later cars, but Spoon judged it insufficient for the loads from wide semi-slick tires. If the car stays on road tires the factory plate may be enough; for regular track use on sticky tires the Spoon frame adds the stiffness the factory part lacks.

Is it a bolt-on part?

No. The plates are welded to the chassis, as Go Tuning specifies, so installation belongs with a fabrication shop experienced in chassis work. The welded areas should be protected afterwards with primer and paint or a suitable underbody coating to keep corrosion away.

How much does it weigh?

Spoon lists the set at 2 kg. Using high-tensile steel lets the plates add real strength at the upper arm mounts without bulk, so the mass added to the front of the car is small next to the gain in stiffness. For a car built around track use, that is an easy trade.

What problem does it prevent?

Under heavy cornering on wide semi-slicks the body-side mounts for the front upper arms flex, degrading steering accuracy. Spoon warns that in the worst case the welds at those mounts can separate from the body. Joining the mounts into one frame stops that movement at the source.

Description

Spoon Sports Gusset Plate Set for AP2 / AP1 Honda S2000 Late Model

The Spoon Sports Gusset Plate Set for AP2 and late AP1 Honda S2000 picks up where Honda stopped. Partway through production Honda added a reinforcement plate at the body-side mounts for the front upper arms, but Spoon found that plate still falls short of the stiffness needed once a car runs wide semi-slicks. With that grip the mounts can move enough to blunt steering response, and in extreme cases the welds there may start to separate. The Spoon answer is a frame that unites the left and right mounts into one structure, made from high-tensile steel and weighing 2 kg. It covers the late AP1 from the 130 series and every AP2, including US cars from 2004 to 2009 with the 2.2L engine. The set is welded in, so it suits a car committed to track work on sticky tires more than one kept on road rubber.

Why a Separate Late Version

The factory changes to the mount area mean the early Spoon plates do not fit later cars. This late set is shaped around the revised mounts and the additional factory plate, so owners of a late car get the full benefit of the Spoon frame design without modifying the parts.

Features

Single frame tying the left and right upper arm mounts together
Goes beyond the reinforcement Honda added on later cars
High-tensile steel chosen for critical chassis areas
Keeps steering precise under semi-slick tire loads
Listed at 2 kg for the set

Applications

Honda S2000: AP1 | 2004-2005 | 2.0L F20C
Honda S2000: AP2 | 2005-2009 | 2.2L F22C

Notes

The Gusset Plate Set for AP2 requires welded installation by a qualified fabricator
US 2004 and 2005 S2000s, which carry the 2.2L F22C1, take this late version
Cars built before October 2003, US model years 2000 to 2003, need the Spoon early model set, part number 60815-AP1-000

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
