What is the difference between the Aero and S-Tai front bumpers?

The S-Tai bumper came first and was shaped for endurance racing with an emphasis on cooling. The Aero Front Bumper for AP1 and AP2 is the later design, drawn with CFD analysis to cut drag and add front downforce through canard-like corners. Spoon says it outperforms its previous S2000 aero while keeping a simpler look.

Does the Aero Front Bumper for AP1 work with the Spoon carbon air duct?

No. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, warns that the Spoon carbon air duct will not fit with this bumper. Owners who already run that duct with a factory or S-Tai front should plan to remove it, or choose the S-Tai bumper, which Spoon pairs with its fresh air duct.

Does the bumper come painted?

No. It is FRP finished in a white gel coat, which is a base for paint rather than a final surface. Spoon advises degreasing first, keying the surface with fine wet paper, filling any pinholes with polyester putty and surfacer, and always test fitting the bumper before it goes into the paint shop.

Yes. Spoon registers the Aero bumper for the AP1 with the 2.0 liter F20C from 1999 and for the AP2 with the 2.2 liter F22C through 2009. Go Tuning lists the same bumper for 2000 to 2009 model year cars in the US, so every S2000 generation is covered by this one part number.

How does it add downforce without more drag?

Spoon bulged both ends of the bumper beyond the factory shape and cut away the area beneath them. CFD analysis showed this behaves like fitted canards, producing downforce, while the flatter leading edge lowers drag. The same airflow helps pull air from inside the wheel arches, an effect Spoon confirmed through fluid analysis.

Description

Spoon Sports Aero Front Bumper for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

Spoon Sports’ Aero Front Bumper for AP1 and AP2 S2000 is the newer of the two S2000 front bumpers Spoon builds, and it raced in Super Taikyu for a year before going on sale. Spoon has developed S2000 aero since 2007, and this design was drawn with CFD analysis. The leading edge was reshaped so air flows more gently from the bumper onto the bonnet, which cuts drag. Both outer corners stand proud of the factory bumper and are cut away underneath; Spoon says that shape works like a pair of canards, adding front downforce, and the same flow helps draw air out of the front wheel arches. Spoon reports that the car can carry more speed through corners and hold more lateral load, with a small fuel economy benefit on the side. Molded in FRP with a white gel coat and listed at 16.2 kg, it suits an S2000 used for track days and time attack; a buyer who wants the original endurance styling should look at the S-Tai bumper instead.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
