Does the Driveshaft Set for FK7 fit a CVT hatchback?

No. Spoon marks the Driveshaft Set for FK7 for manual-transmission cars only and registers it for the 6-speed hatchback with the 1.5L turbo. Spoon does not register the CVT car, so it falls outside the fitment. Manual US hatchbacks from the 2017 to 2021 model years are covered.

Why does Spoon polish the joint housings?

A mirror finish lets Spoon control the gap between moving parts to micron-level precision. That consistent gap holds a stable grease film, which cuts sliding friction and vibration and stops the metal contact that leads to overheating and seizure. Spoon credits the approach to experience gained over many years of endurance racing.

Is the set worthwhile on a car with a stock engine?

Yes, if the car is driven hard or kept for many years, since the benefit is durability and smoothness rather than power. A manual FK7 that sees spirited launches or autocross loads its front joints repeatedly. For a hatchback that commutes gently, the factory shafts are adequate and the set is a long-term refinement.

Will the set fix wheel hop?

No. Wheel hop comes from tire grip, suspension bushings and engine mounts letting the driveline wind up and release. Polished joints make the shafts smoother and more durable under that kind of shock, but they do not change the cause. Stiffer mounts and suspension work address hop, while the Spoon set protects the joints.

How is the set shipped?

Spoon builds the FK7 set to order and needs about three to four weeks before it leaves Japan. It packs into a box measuring 90 x 35 x 20 cm, so it travels as a single parcel. Spoon does not publish a weight for this set, so no weight figure is quoted on this page.

Description

Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for FK7 Honda Civic

The Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for FK7 Honda Civic is reserved for the manual hatchback, a point Spoon states outright: the 1.5-litre turbo cars with the 6-speed are the only FK7s it registers. Spoon describes the goal as smooth, tough running, drawn from its long record in endurance racing. Inside each joint housing the surfaces are polished to a mirror, which holds clearances to micron tolerances so the grease forms a dependable film; friction drops, vibration drops, and the joint stays clear of the seizure that kills a driveshaft from within. On a manual FK7, where a quick clutch release sends torque through the front joints in a sharp hit, that durability earns its keep. It belongs on a hatchback that is driven with intent, whether on back roads, at autocross or on track. Automatic cars are not covered, and a mild commuter will see little reason to change shafts.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
