Does the Head Cover for FK8 also fit the FL5?

Yes. Spoon registers the same cover for the FK8 from 2017 and the FL5 from its 2022 launch in Japan, both with the 2.0L K20C turbo and 6-speed manual. The Head Cover for FK8 therefore suits a US 2017 to 2021 FK8 or a 2023 onward FL5 without any change.

Why choose a painted factory cover over a billet aftermarket one?

A refinished factory cover keeps the original sealing surface, the mounting points and the fit around the coils and engine cover, so there is nothing to modify and no new leak path. Spoon changes only the finish. Owners who want a weight saving from the head cover need a different kind of part.

What does the red finish look like?

Spoon describes the Red option as a crystal, wrinkle-textured red, the look that has long identified a Honda Type R engine. It is applied by Spoon to the factory resin cover, so it is a Spoon finish rather than a Honda part number, and it pairs well with red accents inside or outside the car.

The set contains the refinished head cover in the color ordered and a new head cover gasket, so the seal is renewed in the same job. Spoon lists the set at 3 kg. No fasteners are listed, which means the factory bolts are reused when the new cover goes on.

Can the cover be fitted at home?

Yes. A careful owner with basic tools can fit it, since the job is a head cover swap with a new gasket. Work on a cold engine, remove the coils first, and tighten the fasteners evenly in sequence to the Honda figure so the new gasket seats properly and stays dry.

Description

Spoon Sports Head Cover for FK8 / FL5 Honda Civic Type R

Spoon Sports’ Head Cover for FK8 / FL5 Civic Type R is for the owner who has already sorted the exhaust, wheels and chassis and now wants the engine bay to say the same thing. It is the resin head cover Honda fits to the K20C1 turbo at the factory, refinished by Spoon in one of two looks: a crystal, wrinkle-textured red that follows the Type R tradition, or the yellow Spoon first reserved for engines it built itself. One cover serves both generations, because Spoon registers it for the FK8 and the FL5 with the same 2.0L engine and 6-speed manual. It arrives as a set with a new gasket and a listed weight of 3 kg, and it keeps every factory mounting point, so the result looks special while fitting exactly as Honda intended. On a car kept as a pure track tool, the money is better spent on cooling first; on a car that is shown as often as it is driven, it earns its place.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
