Does the equal length header for VA WRX need a tune?

No. GrimmSpeed lists the equal length header for VA WRX and SJ Forester XT models as requiring no tune and safe to run as a direct bolt-on. The kit includes gaskets, hardware and a J-pipe and turbo bracket, so the header goes on without extra parts or a calibration change.

Will the GrimmSpeed FA20 header lower my ground clearance?

No. The cast merge collector gives the runners the spacing and angles needed to fit between the stock skid plate and the oil pan, so the header clears the factory skid plate without spacers and the vehicle keeps its original ground clearance.

Does the GrimmSpeed VA WRX header keep the turbo support bracket?

Yes. GrimmSpeed includes a J-pipe and turbo bracket with this header so the vehicle retains the turbo support that some aftermarket headers lose. Gaskets and installation hardware are in the box as well, so the header installs without sourcing extra parts.

Does this header fit the 2014 to 2018 Forester XT?

Yes. GrimmSpeed lists the 2014 to 2018 Forester XT, the SJ chassis with the 2.0L FA20DIT, alongside the 2015 to 2021 WRX. Both use the FA20DIT engine. It does not fit the VA STI, which uses the EJ257 engine and a different header design.

Why does an equal length header help the FA20 twin-scroll turbo?

A twin-scroll turbine works best when exhaust pulses arrive with equal timing and strength. GrimmSpeed matched all four runners to within 1 percent in length and 5 degrees in bend, then fed them into a high-angle cast collector so the pulses stop fighting each other, which helps spool and efficiency.

Description

GrimmSpeed Equal Length Header for VA Subaru WRX and SJ Forester XT

GrimmSpeed’s equal length header for VA Subaru WRX and SJ Forester XT replaces the factory FA20DIT manifold with four single-piece, CNC-bent 304 stainless runners that differ in length by less than 1 percent, joined by a cast stainless merge collector. On a twin-scroll FA20 that evens out the pulses reaching the turbine. GrimmSpeed rates it as a bolt-on with no tune required. It earns its place on a vehicle chasing better spool and flow; a lightly driven commuter may not need it.

Development and Testing

GrimmSpeed began with the faults of the OE manifold: diameter neckdowns, collectors shaped for easy manufacturing and a merge angle that sets pulses against each other. Its answer was consistently sized runners, a collector with no bottleneck and a steeper merge into the turbine. Casting the collector removed five welded junctions and allowed a maximum bend variance of 5 degrees.

Features

Equal length, equal bend runners, CNC bent and trimmed as single pieces
Low-restriction cast merge collector
Head flanges faced flat after welding for better gasket sealing
Runners welded inside and outside the flange
Thick flanges and tubing support the overhanging turbo
Clears the factory skid plate without spacers
Manufactured and welded in the USA

About GrimmSpeed

GrimmSpeed began in 2006 in a single-stall garage in Maplewood, Minnesota, porting and polishing Subaru manifolds. After building parts for several other makes, the company narrowed its focus back to Subaru, and its range now covers intercoolers, charge pipes, intakes, bypass valves, headers, up-pipes, catback exhausts, turbochargers, brake caliper kits, drivetrain mounts and titanium engine bay parts for the WRX, STI, Forester XT, Legacy GT, Ascent and BRZ, along with the Toyota 86 and GR86. GrimmSpeed engineers and manufactures as much of that range as it can in-house, and its front mount intercoolers are welded and inspected by hand in the USA.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
