Do the Endless Brake Pads for 951 Turbo S cars fit a 1987 944 Turbo?

No. The Endless Brake Pads for 951 cars on this listing use EIP001 at the front, the shape for the larger 928 S4 calipers that arrived with the 1988 Turbo S. A 1986 or 1987 Turbo has the original 911-derived front brakes and takes EIP002 at the front, which is sold on a separate listing.

Why does the front pad differ from an early 951?

Porsche changed the front brakes. The 1988 Turbo S took its front brakes from the 928 S4, with larger Brembo GT four-piston fixed calipers, and the 1989 to 1991 Turbo inherited them. Endless lists EIP001 for those calipers. The rear brakes stayed as they were on the standard Turbo, so EIP002 carries over at the back.

Which compound suits a 944 Turbo S on track days?

MX72 Plus suits a Turbo S on street tires, with Endless rating it to 750C, or 1382F, and a consistent pedal release lap after lap. A car that runs regular circuit days is better on CC-Rg, rated to 800C, or 1472F, which keeps strong bite when cold. A prepared car can move on to the Racing Group or to W003 and S330.

Which pad keeps a 944 Turbo quiet and clean on the road?

SSM Plus, which Endless rates for low dust, low noise and long life. MX72 and MX72 Plus also keep noise and dust to a minimum while coping with much higher rotor temperatures. CC-Rg is noisy on the street, and the racing compounds are built for circuit heat, so neither suits a car used mainly on the road.

Does a 944 Turbo need MA45B for track days?

No. MA45B is the Endless endurance compound, low in friction but stable for a whole race, with excellent heat resistance and wear, and most Nurburgring and Spa 24 Hours entrants run it. For track days and sprint events in a 944 Turbo, MX72 Plus, CC-Rg or a compound from the Racing Group is the better match and costs less.

Endless Brake Pads for 951 Porsche 944 Turbo with 928 S4 Front Calipers

Endless’s Brake Pads for 951 Porsche 944 Turbo with 928 S4 Front Calipers are for the cars Porsche upgraded at the front: the 1988 944 Turbo S, whose front brakes came from the 928 S4 with larger Brembo GT four-piston fixed calipers and 12-inch discs, and every 944 Turbo from 1989 to 1991, which carried the Turbo S enhancements as standard. Endless matches that hardware with EIP001, the front shape it also lists for the 928 S4, and keeps EIP002 at the rear, where the Turbo S brakes stayed as before. MX72 Plus is our starting point for a 951 at track days on street tires.

Choosing a Compound

On a 944 Turbo driven mostly on the road, SSM Plus gives clean wheels and a quiet pedal; Endless does not make SSS for these shapes. MX72 covers fast road use with occasional laps, MX72 Plus covers track days on street tires, and CC-Rg covers regular circuit use at the price of some road noise. The Racing Group and the single racing options suit a car prepared for competition, and MA45B only makes sense for endurance events. W007 and W008, priced by Endless for EIP001 and EIP002, are left off because Endless designs both for carbon ceramic rotors, and the 944 Turbo runs iron rotors.

Every figure below is Endless’s own. Friction is the compound’s average friction coefficient, so a higher number gives more bite for the same pedal pressure. The rotor range is the band of rotor temperatures Endless designs the compound to work in, so choose by the temperatures your car will see.

Street and street-to-track compounds

SSM Plus (street): non-asbestos; friction 0.33-0.40; rotor range 0-550C (32-1022F). Low dust, low noise and long life. Braking builds with pedal pressure rather than a sharp first bite, for drivers who want clean wheels and a quiet car.
MX72 (street to light track): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.37-0.47; rotor range 50-700C (122-1292F). Minimal noise and dust, strong friction at low temperatures, reduced rotor wear and a better pedal feel than a typical semi-metallic pad. Endless’s dual-duty compound for a road car that sees the occasional track day.
MX72 Plus (street to circuit): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.39-0.47; rotor range 50-750C (122-1382F). Holds its braking force to higher temperatures than MX72, with stable control and a consistent pedal release. Endless aims it at cars on street tires that run on track.
CC-Rg (track day, street capable): ceramic carbon metal; friction 0.38-0.45; rotor range 50-800C (122-1472F). High initial bite across a wide temperature range, even when cold, and modulation that works with the factory ABS under hard use. Endless notes it is noisy on the street; it is the step up from MX72 Plus for regular track days.

Racing compounds

Each option below is one choice in the Choose Compound menu. For a group, name your compound in the order notes and Bulletproof Automotive confirms it with your order. Every racing compound needs Endless’s bedding procedure: at 70 to 80 percent of normal pedal effort, bring the rotors gradually to 400C (752F), then let them cool below 150C (302F) before hard use.

Racing Group

ME22: dual braking style; friction 0.33-0.38; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). Developed from ME20 with lower friction for control, for light to mid-weight cars or heavier cars on slower circuits. Endless rates it for street and track.
ME20: trail-braking style; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). High, stable friction at high temperature with low wear, developed for touring cars and rally. Works front or rear, with stock or racing ABS.
N35S: trail-braking style; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Quick, sharp and responsive, with stable modulation under high temperature and load. Endless’s flagship rally compound, also run in FIA GT, and its suggested starting point for drivers new to Endless racing pads.
N05U: trail-braking style; friction 0.46-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). More bite than N35S, popular in sprint-focused Porsche Cup cars.
N05S: trail-braking style; friction 0.45-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Immediate high friction with little pedal effort, used in Japanese rally cars without brake boosters and in European and Australian sprint racing.
N30C: friction 0.50-0.60; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). High initial bite, gentle on rotors and low wear. A rally compound for cars without a brake booster.
MS20: friction 0.32-0.38; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). A low-friction rear pad with a flat torque curve and long life, for club racing cars.
MS25: friction 0.36-0.42; rotor range 150-800C (302-1472F). Warms up gradually even under heavy braking. Endless pairs it with a higher-friction pad to prevent lock-up.
MS35: friction 0.45-0.53; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Mid to high initial bite with good modulation and control, a sprint pad for a wide range of conditions.
ML20A: friction 0.30-0.33; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). A rear compound with lower initial bite to prevent rear lock-up, for lightweight GT cars.
ML35A: friction 0.30-0.38; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Slightly lower friction with excellent modulation and wear, for lighter GT cars.
ML40A: friction 0.32-0.47; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Moderate friction that resists lock-up, an endurance compound.
S55G: Endless publishes no figures. It suits lightweight and front-wheel-drive cars, and the rear of front-wheel-drive cars, with high controllability.
PC35: Endless publishes no figures. More bite than N35S with high braking force and a stable pedal; Endless’s base pad for rally raid.
S41S: Endless publishes no figures. Developed for GT cars, including GT3, under high brake loads.

Sold as their own options

W003: trail-braking style; friction 0.40-0.45. Similar in character to N35S with better wear, tough and stable at high temperature with a linear torque curve; run in rally, touring cars, ALMS and PWC. Circuit only: Endless does not recommend it for the street and notes high rotor wear when cold.
S330: trail-braking style; friction 0.60-0.70; rotor range 300-850C (572-1562F). High friction for sprint racing, with good control at high levels and without accelerating rotor wear; run in Super GT, stock cars and GT2 and GT3 sprint racing.
MA45B: standard braking style; rotor range 300-800C (572-1472F). Endless’s endurance compound: low friction but stable for a whole race, with excellent heat resistance and wear. Most Nurburgring and Spa 24 Hours entrants run it.

Porsche 944 Turbo S: 951 | 1988 | 2.5L turbo

Notes

Each Front or Rear set of Brake Pads for 951 Turbo and Turbo S cars covers both wheels on one axle
Not for the 1986 to 1988 944 Turbo with the original 911-derived front brakes, which takes EIP002 at the front and has its own listing
Endless dates these cars from 1987. A 1988 944 Turbo without the S package kept the original front brakes, so check with Bulletproof Automotive if unsure which a car has.
For the factory brakes; a car converted to an aftermarket big brake kit takes the pads for those calipers

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
