Which R8 models does the Carbon Fiber Drag Spoiler fit?

The T1 Carbon Fiber Drag Spoiler fits both early and facelifted second generation Audi R8 models that left the factory with the fixed position carbon rear wing. T1 Race Development states that it is not compatible with trim levels that came without that wing.

Why choose a model year when ordering?

The support rod brackets differ between pre facelift and facelift cars because the rear bumper grilles they mount through are different. T1 supplies one set of brackets with each kit, so choose 2017 to 2019 or 2020 to 2023 to receive the correct set.

How does it reduce rear lift?

By extending the rear deck, the spoiler makes air over the car travel further back before it tumbles into the turbulent area behind it, and the integrated wicker redirects that air away from the area. T1 says this reduces rear lift, while removing the factory wing reduces drag.

How difficult is the installation?

T1 Race Development recommends a qualified technician or body shop and estimates five to six hours. The work needs basic tools, a drill bit set and a nutsert tool, as several holes are drilled to 23/64 for M6 nutserts. The rear wheels and inner fender liners come off for access.

What happens to the factory wing?

It is removed. The spoiler mounts to the factory rear trim panel using the original wing holes plus new ones, and billet brackets take the place of the wing bases on the chassis. The support rods then run from the underside of the spoiler to brackets in the rear bumper grilles.

Description

T1 Race Development Carbon Fiber Drag Spoiler for 4S Audi R8

T1 Race Development’s Carbon Fiber Drag Spoiler for 4S Audi R8 takes the place of the factory fixed rear wing, using a spoiler that follows the original body lines and extends the rear deck well beyond them. T1 first ran it on its own record-holding quarter mile R8 before releasing it, and it is built entirely from carbon fiber with a forged carbon top layer and a gloss clear coat.

Design and Performance

Extending the deck makes the air passing over the car travel further back before it breaks into the turbulent area behind it, and the integrated wicker at the trailing edge turns that air away from the low pressure zone. T1 states that the result is reduced rear lift, and removing the factory wing also reduces drag. Four support rods running down to brackets in the rear bumper grilles carry the spoiler, adding strength.

Construction

The element is vacuum infused from carbon fabrics by Toray, SGL Carbon and Angeloni, with resins from Sika, R&G and Sicomin. T1 lists six fabric layers, two of 240 and four of 600, laid with attention to fiber direction.

About T1 Race Development

T1 Race Development was founded in Texas in 2005 by Tony Palo, whose 2000 Acura Integra GSR became the first eight-second front-wheel-drive street car before the shop turned its attention to the Nissan GT-R. T1 went on to become the first to exceed 230 mph in the half mile in a GT-R and the first to make 2,400 whp from the VR38DETT, and it now develops engines, drivetrain parts and complete builds for the R35 GT-R, Lamborghini Huracan and Audi R8.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
