Does a stock R35 GT-R need a transmission brace?

Usually not. T1 Race Development developed the brace set for GR6 transaxles that see drag launches, wheel hop and raised power on sticky tires, which is where the rear of the case has failed. A stock GT-R on street tires is not the car it was designed around, but owners who launch often or plan more power fit it as protection.

What is the T1 Race Development Transmission Brace Set for R35 made from?

The T1 Race Development Transmission Brace Set for R35 is steel with a bright-nickel plated finish for corrosion and rust resistance under the car. Earlier sets were finished in zinc yellow, and T1 has since added CNC-machined pieces to the lower brace to improve its fit and appearance.

Is the brace set sold as a pair?

Yes. The set is sold as a pair, one upper brace and one lower brace, and the two work together. The upper brace links the top of the transmission case to the differential housing, and the lower brace links the bottom of the differential housing to the side of the case.

How difficult is the R35 transmission brace set to install?

It is a careful job rather than a quick bolt-on. Fitting the braces means removing differential housing bolts and seating the upper brace on two dowels whose bores can vary by up to 0.025 inch between cases, so light sanding or drilling is sometimes needed. A shop experienced with the GR6 transaxle is the sensible choice.

Does the brace set fit every R35 GT-R model year?

Yes. Every R35 Nissan GT-R uses the GR6 dual-clutch transaxle the braces are built around, from the 2009 model year through the final 2024 US models. Because the upper dowel bores vary slightly from case to case, some installs need light bore adjustment even though T1 test fits every set.

Description

T1 Race Development GT1R Upper and Lower Transmission Brace Set for R35 Nissan GT-R

T1 Race Development’s GT1R Upper and Lower Transmission Brace Set for R35 Nissan GT-R answers a failure that drag racing exposed in the GR6 transaxle: under hard launches on sticky tires, cases let go where the differential housing meets the transmission housing, a joint held by its aluminum mating faces alone. T1, the Texas shop whose GT-Rs have set half-mile speed records, ties the two housings together with a pair of bright-nickel braces, and every set is test fitted on a Nissan differential housing before it ships. For a built GR6, it is modest insurance on one of the costliest assemblies in the car.

Design and Performance

The upper brace bolts to the top of the transmission case and wraps around to the differential housing, located by a large and a small dowel in parallel bores; the lower brace runs from the bottom of the differential housing to the side of the case. Together they share launch and wheel-hop loads that would otherwise fall on the bolted aluminum joint alone. T1 has since added CNC-machined pieces to the lower brace and moved the finish from zinc yellow to bright nickel.

Features

Upper and lower braces tie the differential housing to the transmission housing
Steel construction with bright-nickel plating for corrosion and rust resistance
Upper brace located by two dowels in locating bores on the case
Each set test fitted on a Nissan differential housing before shipping
Sold as a pair: one upper brace and one lower brace

Applications

Nissan GT-R: R35 | 2009-2024 | 3.8L VR38DETT V6

Notes

The Transmission Brace Set for R35 earns its place on a built GR6 or any R35 that sees drag launches, wheel hop or raised power on sticky tires
Never hammer the upper brace into place; T1 advises seating the large dowel first and then the small one, with grease or anti-seize on both to ease future differential service
The T1 Race Development GT1R CNC Rear Differential Cover (GT1R CNC Diff Cover) ships with a redesigned upper brace that replaces the upper brace from this set, while the lower brace stays in place

About T1 Race Development

T1 Race Development was founded in Texas in 2005 by Tony Palo, whose 2000 Acura Integra GSR became the first eight-second front-wheel-drive street car before the shop turned its attention to the Nissan GT-R. T1 went on to become the first to exceed 230 mph in the half mile in a GT-R and the first to make 2,400 whp from the VR38DETT, and it now develops engines, drivetrain parts and complete builds for the R35 GT-R, Lamborghini Huracan and Audi R8.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
