The SOUL Performance Sport Package combines the Valved Exhaust System with Competition Over Axle Pipes to deliver a broader, more controllable sound range than the factory PSE. A purpose-built X-pipe and SOUL Performance anti-drone development sharpen the tone with the valves open, while valves closed keep overall volume in check for refined cruising. Designed for 2020+ Porsche 718 GT4 / Spyder / GTS 4.0L fitment in North America, the package reduces weight versus OEM and is built in-house at SOUL Performance’s Willow Grove, PA facility. It is backed by a Lifetime Warranty for street and track use, and includes a Valve Controller Kit for on-demand valve control beyond factory programming.

Development Goals

• Accomplish a noticeable difference in sound between both modes, resulting in two meticulously crafted and practical experiences, a mild option and a wild one.

Research & Development

• When the valves are open, their Valved Exhaust System shares a design resemblance with their Race Exhaust System, incorporating an X-Pipe that merges the exhaust flow, resulting in a refined and higher-pitched sound. Conversely, when the valves are closed, the exhaust is directed through smaller piping and a specially designed SOUL muffler, carefully crafted to fit within the limited space above the rear diffuser while achieving their desired sound objectives. This muffler upholds their exceptional standards for drone fighting mufflers, consistent with the reputation they have built through their existing Boxster / Cayman line of products.
• The internal design of this muffler is exceptionally distinctive. It boasts a flow path with minimal restrictions, utilizing straight-through piping that features perforations allowing the exhaust gases to escape and be effectively muffled by the surrounding packing material within the muffler body. Additionally, a secondary internal X-pipe has been incorporated to facilitate a seamless merging of the exhaust flow. These carefully chosen characteristics play a pivotal role in reducing and refining the drone within the 1,800-3,000rpm range while enhancing the desired higher-pitched note in both the valves closed and open conditions.
• By simply replacing the PSE (Porsche sport exhaust) muffler with the stock over axle pipes, an impressive transformation in tone is achieved. The new sound is smoother, higher pitched, and reminiscent of the cherished character found in previous generations of Boxster / Cayman with flat-six engines. In contrast, the PSE running with valves closed lacks a distinct tone and is often described as tinny, hollow, and unremarkable, with the intake noise overpowering the exhaust note.
• With the introduction of their Valved Exhaust System, the exhaust now possesses genuine character, and its presence can be appreciated both with valves open and closed. The transition between valves closed and open modes is remarkably seamless. Although the overall sound level at wide-open throttle (WOT) with valves open may not exhibit a dramatic increase when compared to the stock system, the larger tubing diameter, extended travel path, and blending of the X-pipe result in a more profound and melodious sound. This remarkable soundscape is particularly captivating when heard from the outside, delivering a true sporty note that is expected from a high-end 4.0L engine.

Construction

• Each system is assembled in house in the USA out of mandrel bent, thick wall .065″” T304L stainless steel. Back purged TIG welding (with ARCAL™ Prime argon gas) ensures proper weld penetration and longevity. Water jet cut flanges are made to ISO 9001:2015 standards with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches for extreme precision. They fabricate each exhaust using thick gauge aluminum fixtures which act as a great heat sink during the welding process and prevent warping not only of our products, but the fixtures themselves to ensure perfect fitment.

Bolt On & Go

• Each individual component undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure its impeccable quality. To guarantee proper fitment, they are meticulously tested in a fixture, ensuring a seamless integration. Additionally, to safeguard against any potential damage during transit, they are carefully foam packed, ensuring that they arrive in perfect condition.
• Furthermore, new high-grade hardware is included to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free installation process. With their commitment to providing a comprehensive package, you can be confident that all the necessary hardware is included, allowing for a straightforward installation experience.

Driving Impressions

• Every system is meticulously assembled in-house in the USA, using mandrel bent T304L stainless steel with a robust .065″ wall thickness. The welding process involves back purged TIG welding, employing ARCAL™ Prime argon gas to ensure impeccable weld penetration and long-lasting durability. To achieve utmost precision, water jet cut flanges are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, maintaining tolerances as fine as +/- 0.003 inches.
• To guarantee perfect fitment, each exhaust is fabricated utilizing sturdy aluminum fixtures with thick gauge construction. These fixtures not only serve as excellent heat sinks during the welding process but also safeguard against warping, ensuring precise fitment not only for the products themselves but also for the fixtures.
• They found that the particulate filters in the over axle pipes put a big damper on the overall sound level and how it carries into the cabin. Think of it like a cork in the middle of the exhaust, letting a PSE muffler replacement tease you but not giving you the full experience. Combining their Valved Exhaust System with their Competition Over Axle Pipes is when the skies open up, the sun shines down and the Porsche Gods have blessed us all with the sound we’ve all been waiting for. Inside and outside the car, windows up and down, the experience is nothing short of transformational. At wide open throttle it sounds like a weapons grade symphony. Very reminiscent of a GT3 at 9k, and arguably better than any stock GT3 you’ll ever hear on the street. Ditching the factory over axle pipes finally allows the car to have some burble on deceleration but nothing too over the top, just enough and just right. When you do a hard shift, a visceral crack erupts to really put a smile on your face. Not like a shotgun blast going off, more like a reward for actually driving the car how it’s meant to be driven. The sound is aggressive, but not overly so like you just took an RSR off the track for street shenanigans. When you’re off throttle cruising around, it’s relatively docile and comfortable (that secondary flow path at work). If you want to fly under the radar and significantly cut down on sound level outside the car, you simply close the valves and away you go in stealth mode. However, even with valves closed the tone and character of the exhaust is still there, not dead muted like the PSE muffler. It has cabin presence, some ever so mild drone/resonance in low rpms that they consider quite reasonable compared to the other configurations they’ve tested – even with valves open it’s quite reasonable. They’d almost say it’s more a character of the system and it’d be a shame if there wasn’t any to tease you into squeezing on the gas to hear more of it. Installing a SOUL Valve Controller Kit to override the PSE programming at your convenience, and hear what it has to offer under 4-5krpm in the first few gears is highly recommended.
