BMW N55 oil catch can kit from MMX Performance is a complete PCV oil separation system for F2x and F3x N55-powered BMW models M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i, and M2, designed to prevent oil vapor and moisture from recirculating through the intake system. On direct-injection engines like the N55, the PCV system routes blow-by gases and oil mist back into the intake manifold; without a catch can, this oil vapor coats the intercooler walls and intake valves in a layer of carbon-laden sludge that restricts airflow, reduces combustion efficiency, and is expensive to remove once established. The MMX oil catch can intercepts that flow, trapping the oil mist in a high-gloss black anodized T-6061 billet aluminum housing before it can reach the intercooler and valves. The system mounts securely to the inner wing via a precision-machined billet bracket for a factory-style installation, with motorsport-spec PTFE-lined hoses, crimped race fittings, and a billet reproduction of the OEM cam cover connector for a direct, leak-free fit. An integrated dipstick allows quick oil level checking without removing the can. Developed, tested, and validated by MMX on road and track.

Why does the BMW N55 need an oil catch can? The N55 is a direct-injection engine, which means fuel is injected directly into the cylinders rather than through the intake ports. The PCV system still routes blow-by gases and oil mist back through the intake manifold, but because there is no fuel washing the intake valves clean on each intake stroke, oil and carbon deposits accumulate on the valve faces over time. A BMW N55 oil catch can intercepts this flow before it reaches the intake, preventing that buildup and preserving long-term engine efficiency.

Emptying frequency depends on driving conditions track use and high-load driving produce more blow-by than typical road driving. Check the level at each oil change and drain when it reaches the maximum mark. Most road-driven N55 cars accumulate 50-100ml per service interval.
Is the BMW N55 oil catch can suitable for a tuned or modified engine? Yes. The MMX N55 oil catch can is equally effective on stock and tuned engines. Modified N55 engines running higher boost produce more blow-by and benefit even more from an oil catch can, as the increased crankcase pressure accelerates the rate of oil mist entering the PCV circuit.
How difficult is installation? Level-2 install difficulty. The kit mounts to the inner wing using the supplied billet bracket and connects to the PCV circuit using the supplied hoses and cam cover connector. All hardware is included and no cutting or permanent modifications are required.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
