What is the difference between the silver and black versions?

The finish. This is the bare aluminum 888883-6001, which Turn 14 lists as Silver, and Garrett also builds a flat black 888883-6002. Garrett publishes a single specification for both, so the core, coolant passages, weight and 980 horsepower rating do not change with the color you choose.

Which BMW models does the PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler fit?

Garrett lists the PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler for the 2015 and later M3 on the F80 chassis and the M4 on the F82 and F83 chassis, with the gasoline inline six. It is a direct fit in the factory position. Later M3 and M4 generations are not on the Garrett fitment list for this part.

Is the 980 horsepower rating a power gain?

No. It is the most power Garrett says the cooler can support. The measured result in Garrett testing was smaller and practical: an average 10F drop in intake manifold temperature and an average of 12.4 horsepower more than the factory cooler once the car was heat soaked.

How does Garrett measure intercooler effectiveness?

Garrett reports instantaneous effectiveness, the share of the possible heat the cooler removes at a given moment. Its testing put the factory cooler at 90 percent and the Garrett unit at 92 percent, with outlet temperature about 5F lower on each run before heat soak and 10F lower after it.

How long does installation take?

Garrett quotes about 1.5 hours. The cooler bolts into the stock location with the factory bolts, hoses and clamps, so the job is a swap rather than a fabrication project, and the original cooler can be kept if the car ever needs to return to stock.

Description

Garrett PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler for F80 F82 F83 BMW M3 and M4, Silver

Garrett’s PowerMax M3 M4 Intercooler in silver is the bare aluminum version of Garrett’s air-to-liquid upgrade for the F80 M3 and the F82 and F83 M4 from 2015 on; Turn 14 sells it as Silver and Garrett lists it as the aluminum finish, part 888883-6001. Underneath the finish it matches the black version: a bar-and-plate core 47 percent larger than stock, dual-pass coolant flow, cast aluminum end tanks and a 980 horsepower rating. Pick it if you prefer the look of raw metal under the hood. On a stock car the gain is modest, while a tuned car that heat soaks during spirited driving or track use is where Garrett’s test data shows the cooler earning its place.

Design

Garrett used computational fluid dynamics to shape the end tanks and states that flow through each passage of the core varies by about 7 percent from the mean. Even distribution means the whole core does the work, and Garrett’s test data shows charge air flow about 2 lb/min higher and charge pressure about 1.5 psi higher after the tenth pull.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
