COBB’s Intercooler Kit for the FL5 Civic Type R and DE5 Integra Type S provides a substantial jump in cooling capacity to support increased power and deliver consistent output even at stock levels. Whereas the factory unit flows well but is limited thermally and prone to heat soak under extreme conditions, the COBB kit employs a high-quality Garrett core that is 101% larger than stock (26.2″ x 7″ x 4.25″) with bespoke COBB end tanks optimized for flow and even air distribution, yielding significant heat management improvements without sacrificing airflow.

Engineering

• The kit uses 2.5-inch mandrel-bent aluminum charge piping on both sides of the larger core, finished in wrinkle-black powder coat, with custom silicone couplers and constant-tension clamps to maintain compliance and ensure a leak-free seal. The COBB intercooler installs in the factory location with no modification on the Type R and only minimal work on the Type S; because the aluminum core and end tanks are heavier than the OE aluminum-and-plastic unit, COBB includes in-house – designed billet upper mounts and new bushings for both the upper and lower mounts to properly support the assembly.
