Description

BBS Forged Line FI-R Centerlock Matte Black Wheel (21×12.5 +48) for 991 Porsche 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS [FI143MB]

The BBS Forged Line FI-R in Matte Black is the rear wheel for the two hardest cars Porsche built on the 991 platform. BBS has built race wheels since the 1970s, and the FI-R uses the same multi-stage die-forging: a single billet of aluminum pressed into a monoblock whose grain structure follows the finished shape of the wheel rather than running straight through it. At 12.5 inches wide this is the widest wheel in the FI-R Porsche program, and 23.5lbs for that section is the whole argument for forging. Matte Black keeps the face quiet so the caliper and the carbon ceramic disc behind it read clearly, which on a GT2 RS is the correct order of priorities.

Forged Construction

BBS forges the FI-R from a solid billet of 6000 series aluminum or its own magnesium alloy, using a proprietary multi-stage die-forging process that applies up to 18 million pounds of force. Forging closes the porosity that casting leaves behind and aligns the grain along the load paths the wheel actually sees, so the rim section can be made thinner without giving up strength. The spokes, hub face and barrel are one continuous piece of metal, with no bolts, no welds and no joint to fatigue.

Weight and Design

Each cross spoke carries a machined relief that takes material out of a low-load area, and the wheel’s section is optimized by FEM analysis rather than by eye. A 21×12.5 wheel at 23.5lbs is an unusual figure, and on a car already stripped to the degree a GT2 RS is, the rear corner is the last place left where real rotating and unsprung mass can still be removed.

Centerlock Fitment

This is a true centerlock wheel, machined for the single-nut hub Porsche fits to the GT cars rather than adapted from a five-lug pattern. The 84mm center bore locates on the factory centerlock spigot and the +48mm offset sets the 12.5 inch rim under the RS arch. The matching front is the 20×9.5 +50.

Notes

Sold as a single wheel, not a set of four
This is the rear axle fitment, and a full set needs two of these plus two of the matching 20×9.5 +50 front
The complete staggered set is listed as the BBS FI-R Centerlock Wheel Set for the 991 GT2 RS and GT3 RS (FIR142/FIR143)
Browse the full BBS FI-R centerlock range
Fits the factory Porsche centerlock hub only and will not mount to a standard 5-lug PCD hub
Centerlock installation calls for the correct Porsche centerlock socket and a torque wrench rated to the factory specification
TPMS sensors are not supplied with the wheel
Images are used for marketing purposes and the actual product may vary
Vehicles that have been lowered or otherwise modified need sufficient clearance between the wheel arches and the suspension components. Tire size and positioning should both be checked against the revised setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the BBS Forged Line FI-R in 21×12.5 +48 fit? It is the rear axle fitment for the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS from 2017 to 2019, the 991.1 GT3 RS from 2015 to 2016, and the 991.2 GT3 RS from 2018 to 2019. All three left the factory with centerlock hubs. It will not mount to a five-lug Porsche hub.
Is the FI-R forged or cast? Forged. BBS die-forges the FI-R from a single billet under up to 18 million pounds of force, producing a one-piece monoblock with no bolts or welds. Forging closes the internal porosity that casting leaves behind, which is what allows the rim section to be made thinner and lighter without giving up strength.
How much does the 21×12.5 FI-R weigh? 23.5lbs, or 10.7kg. For a 21 inch wheel 12.5 inches wide that is a low figure, and it is the reason this wheel is specified on cars that already came from the factory with weight engineered out. Lower rotating and unsprung mass improves braking and damper control together.
What front wheel pairs with this rear? The 20×9.5 +50, part FI142, at 18.3lbs. A complete staggered set for the GT2 RS or GT3 RS is two of these 21×12.5 +48 rears and two 20×9.5 +50 fronts. The full set is listed separately on this site, which is usually the simpler way to order it.
What is the center bore? 84mm, which locates on the Porsche centerlock hub spigot. Because the wheel is secured by a single central nut rather than five studs, no spacers, adapters or centering rings are used. The nut is torqued to the factory specification every time the wheel comes off, using the correct Porsche centerlock socket.
Will this clear carbon ceramic brakes? The 21×12.5 +48 is the BBS rear fitment for cars delivered with the factory ceramic package, so clearance is accounted for in the design. Confirm before ordering if the car runs an aftermarket big brake kit, because caliper geometry varies between manufacturers and can change the clearance behind the spokes.

About BBS

BBS was founded in 1970 by Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand in Schiltach, Germany, two amateur racers looking for performance on track. They started with fiberglass body panels to cut weight, then turned to unsprung weight with a three-piece racing wheel that drew the attention of factory programs including BMW. Road wheels followed, and in 1983 the original three-piece RS design arrived and became an industry icon. Technology Through Motorsports remains the company’s motto, and BBS still designs, tests and manufactures its own products and technologies.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
