BBS, founded in 1970 by amateur racers Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand of Schiltach (in the Black Forest region), began with engineering lightweight fiberglass body panels to give a performance edge on race tracks. To further reduce unsprung weight they developed an innovative three–part racing wheel which caught BMW Motorsports‘ attention; this helped BBS grow even more.
