Will the High-Efficiency Rear Wing Kit for ND fit an MX-5 RF?

No, not as supplied. Verus Engineering states the High-Efficiency Rear Wing Kit for ND is not compatible with the RF off the shelf, though a small spacer can be fabricated to make it fit. RF owners should email Verus for the details before ordering. The kit bolts to the factory trunk of the ND soft top roadster.

What downforce rating does Verus give the ND wing?

Verus Engineering rates the wing to generate and withstand more than 300 lb of downforce, an amount it sized for the typical track day driver and street enthusiast. The figure seen on track depends on speed and setup. Verus reports that its CFD results and real-world testing correlated closely, and the wing met each of its design goals in both.

Will a rear wing hurt fuel economy on my Miata?

No, Verus Engineering says the effect is small. The airfoil was optimized for efficiency because the stock ND makes limited power, so the wing adds downforce and corner speed without a large hit to straight-line top speed or fuel economy on the street. The swan neck mount keeps the element in clean airflow to help that efficiency.

Why does Verus use a swan neck mount on this wing?

A swan neck mount holds the element from above, so the airflow reaching it stays clean. Verus Engineering chose it to keep efficiency up compared with typical bottom mount wings. The uprights are knife-edged at the rear and rounded at the front, shaped with CFD and FEA for both straight and yawed flow, and strong enough for the wing loads.

Should the ND wing be paired with front aero?

Yes, for the best balance at speed. Verus Engineering sized the wing to work with most off-the-shelf front aero, and its own ND front splitter is designed to offset moderate rear aerodynamic loads. Adding the wing alone moves the balance rearward, so pairing it with a splitter or dive planes keeps the front end working in fast corners.

Description

Verus Engineering High-Efficiency Rear Wing Kit for ND Mazda MX-5 Miata

Verus Engineering’s High-Efficiency Rear Wing Kit for ND Mazda MX-5 Miata is shaped around the modest output of the stock ND, where every pound of drag shows up on the straights. Verus drew its own airfoil from a clean sheet using the ANSYS adjoint solver and hung it on swan neck uprights, which feed the element clean air instead of the disturbed flow a bottom-mounted wing sees. The result raises corner speed at little cost in top speed or fuel economy, and Verus rates it to generate and withstand more than 300 lb of downforce.

Construction

The element is carbon fiber with a carbon Nomex infill for strength, and its mounting points are recessed into the airfoil to keep the surface clean. The trunk mounts sit at the strongest points of the lid and are reinforced there to protect it from damage.

Features

Airfoil developed in-house with the ANSYS adjoint solver
Swan neck mounting feeds the element undisturbed air
Lower drag with more downforce for a better lift-to-drag ratio
Bolts to the factory trunk
Proportioned for common aftermarket front aero

What’s Included

Rear wing element assembly
Machined aluminum rear wing uprights (x2)
Machined aluminum rear wing trunk mounts (x2)
Hardware kit with all parts for the install

Applications

Mazda MX-5 Miata: ND soft top | 2016-present

Notes

About Verus Engineering

Verus Engineering designs aerodynamic and performance parts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two engineers founded it in late 2014 as Velox Motorsports and renamed it in 2017 after a trademark dispute; verus is Latin for true or complete. Each design starts from a 3D scan of the car, is developed with CFD and finite element analysis and is validated on track, across more than 20 platforms from the GR86 to the C8 Corvette.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
