SOUL Performance’s Sport Exhaust Package for 982 Porsche 718 GT4, Spyder, and GTS 4.0 combines the Valved Exhaust System with Competition Over Axle Pipes to deliver a broader, more controllable sound range than the factory PSE. A purpose-built X-pipe and SOUL Performance anti-drone development sharpen the tone with the valves open, while valves closed keep overall volume in check for refined cruising. Designed for 2020+ North American fitment, the package reduces weight versus OEM and is built in-house at SOUL Performance’s Willow Grove, PA facility. It is backed by a Lifetime Warranty for street and track use, and includes a Valve Controller Kit for on-demand valve control beyond factory programming.

Research & Development

With the valves open, SOUL’s Valved Exhaust System uses an X-Pipe similar to SOUL’s Race Exhaust System to merge exhaust flow for a refined, higher-pitched sound. With the valves closed, exhaust routes through smaller piping and a purpose-built SOUL muffler, sized to fit the limited space above the rear diffuser without compromising the drone-fighting standard set by the rest of SOUL’s Boxster / Cayman lineup. Internally, the muffler uses straight-through, perforated piping and a secondary internal X-pipe so exhaust gases merge smoothly and are muffled by the surrounding packing material, reducing drone in the 1,800-3,000rpm range while sharpening the higher-pitched note in both modes. Compared to the factory PSE muffler, which turns tinny and hollow with valves closed as intake noise takes over, SOUL’s system keeps genuine character in both modes with a seamless transition between them. At wide-open throttle, the larger tubing, longer travel path, and X-pipe blend produce a deeper, more melodic sound, especially from outside the car, delivering the sporty note expected of a high-end 4.0L engine.

Construction

Each system is assembled in-house in the USA out of mandrel-bent, thick-wall .065in T304L stainless steel. Back-purged TIG welding, with ARCAL Prime argon gas, ensures proper weld penetration and longevity. Water-jet cut flanges are made to ISO 9001:2015 standards with tolerances of +/-0.003in for extreme precision. Each exhaust is fabricated using thick-gauge aluminum fixtures, which act as a heat sink during welding and prevent warping of both the products and the fixtures themselves, ensuring perfect fitment.

Each individual component undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure its impeccable quality. To guarantee proper fitment, they are meticulously tested in a fixture, ensuring a seamless integration. Additionally, to safeguard against any potential damage during transit, they are carefully foam packed, ensuring that they arrive in perfect condition. New high-grade hardware is included to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free installation process.

Driving Impressions

The particulate filters in the factory over axle pipes choke the sound before it reaches the cabin, like a cork in the middle of the exhaust that lets a PSE muffler replacement tease you without delivering the full experience. Pair the Valved Exhaust System with the Competition Over Axle Pipes and the skies open up: the difference is transformational, inside and outside the car, windows up or down. At wide-open throttle it’s a weapons-grade symphony, reminiscent of a GT3 at 9k and arguably better than any stock GT3 on the street. Losing the factory over axle pipes brings a satisfying burble on deceleration and a visceral crack on hard shifts, aggressive without tipping into track-day theatrics. Off throttle, it settles into a docile, comfortable cruise thanks to the secondary flow path, and closing the valves drops the exterior volume into stealth mode while keeping real tone and cabin presence, never the dead, muted character of the PSE muffler. Installing a SOUL Valve Controller Kit to override the PSE programming and unlock the sound under 4-5krpm in the lower gears is highly recommended.
