What does 1.75-way mean on the LSD Kit for AP1?

It describes how the differential locks in each direction. The LSD Kit for AP1 locks under power and keeps a large share of that effect on deceleration, more than a 1.5-way unit and less than a 2-way. Spoon chose 1.75-way only for the S2000, where stability while braking into a corner matters on a rear-drive car.

Will the differential make noise?

Yes, it can. Spoon notes that a mechanical limited-slip differential may produce drag noise from the driven wheels, operating noise from its internal gears and some vibration, mostly in tight, slow turns such as parking. These sounds are part of how a clutch-type unit works rather than a sign of a fault.

What initial torque is it set to?

Spoon ships the kit at an initial torque of 9 to 9.5 kgf-m, measured with the unit cold. That preload keeps the differential working at small throttle openings and on corner entry, and it falls gradually as the internal plates wear, which is the point at which an overhaul is due.

Is it a good choice for a street S2000?

It depends on how the car is used. On a car that sees track days or hard canyon driving, the Spoon unit gives more consistent traction and stability than a road-biased differential. On an S2000 driven gently, the noise of a mechanical unit may outweigh the gain, and the factory differential is the better match.

What is included and who should fit it?

The kit includes the differential unit and its side bearings, and Spoon lists it at 8 kg. Fitting it means removing the differential from the car, rebuilding it around the new limited-slip unit and setting bearing preload and gear backlash, so it is work for a drivetrain specialist rather than a home garage.

Description

Spoon Sports LSD Kit for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports LSD Kit for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 is the one Spoon differential set to 1.75-way, a ramp choice made for the rear-drive S2000 rather than the 1.5-way used on its front-drive kits. Spoon’s reasoning starts with load. Through a corner or under hard acceleration the two rear tires never carry equal weight, and a conventional differential sends torque toward the lighter one, which unsettles the car on the brakes and blunts drive on the exit. A mechanical limited-slip unit senses the difference in speed and torque between the wheels and restricts it, so traction reaches the road. The 1.75-way setting adds substantial locking on deceleration, helping the S2000 hold its line when the driver brakes or lifts into a turn. Spoon ships it at an initial torque of 9 to 9.5 kgf-m measured cold and designed it to be straightforward to assemble and maintain. It belongs in an S2000 driven at a circuit; owners who rarely push the car will mostly notice the chatter a mechanical diff brings.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
