How much stiffer are the Engine Transmission Mounts for FK8?

Spoon rates the mount rubber about 25 percent harder than the factory parts. The Engine Transmission Mounts for FK8 were developed by testing several stiffness levels, and that figure was chosen as the balance between quicker throttle response and an acceptable level of vibration in the cabin.

Were they tested in racing?

Yes. Spoon used the 25 Hours of Thunderhill as the final test for the set. The drivers gave very positive feedback after the race, and a post-race inspection of the mounts found no durability problems, a demanding proof for a part that also has to work on the street.

Will the shift feel change?

Yes, for the better according to Spoon. With the engine and gearbox held more firmly, less powertrain rocking blurs each change, so the shifter feels more precise. Spoon describes improved shift feel as a side benefit of the firmer mounts, alongside quicker response to the throttle.

Are the mounts comfortable for daily driving?

Yes. Spoon set out to combine comfort with sporting response and rejected stiffer options that passed too much vibration into the car. The 25 percent increase is modest compared with race mounts, which is why the set suits an FK8 that commutes during the week and visits a circuit on weekends.

No. This set is registered only for the FK8 Civic Type R with the six-speed manual, built from 2017 to 2021. Spoon makes a separate engine and transmission mount set for the FL5, developed from its race car and street testing on the newer car.

Description

Spoon Sports Engine Transmission Mounts for FK8 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Engine Transmission Mounts for FK8 Honda Civic Type R were signed off at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, the last stage of a development program that tried several rubber stiffnesses in different conditions. The logic is simple. Engine torque reaches the tires through the gearbox and driveshafts, and the mounts must resist the reaction before that drive can arrive promptly. Firmer mounts sharpen throttle response, can lower lap times, and as a side effect tighten the shift feel. Go too far and engine vibration floods the cabin. Spoon settled on rubber about 25 percent harder than stock, and after the race its drivers reported very favorably while an inspection found no durability concerns. The set is listed at 6.5 kg. It is the right step for an FK8 driven on track and on the road; an FK8 that never leaves the road and is driven gently gains little from it.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
