Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for GK5 Honda Fit
Mirror-finished joints and heat-resistant boots for the 6-speed Fit RS, built to the early or late specification of the car
The Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for GK5 Honda Fit is one of the few Spoon parts that asks for paperwork: Spoon builds early and late cars to different specifications, so in Japan it requires a copy of the vehicle registration when the order is placed. The set itself follows Spoon’s belief that smooth running and toughness go together. Each joint housing is polished inside to a mirror finish, giving micron-level clearances that keep grease where it belongs and let the joints slide with low friction and little vibration, while heat-resistant rubber boots protect both the inboard and outboard joints. Smooth joints are also durable ones, because they avoid the seizure that wrecks a driveshaft from the inside. For a 6-speed GK5 driven on track or hard on the road it is a meaningful refinement. CVT cars are not covered, and a commuter has little need for it.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
