Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for FC1 Honda Civic
Smoother, quieter drive for the 1.5-litre turbo sedan, from joint housings polished to micron-level clearances
The Spoon Sports Driveshaft Set for FC1 Honda Civic brings endurance-racing driveshaft thinking to the tenth-generation sedan with the 1.5-litre turbo and CVT, a pairing Spoon registers from the 2017 Japanese launch onward. Spoon frames its driveshaft work around two qualities, smoothness and toughness, and builds them in by polishing the inside of each joint housing to a mirror finish. The result is clearance held to the micron, which helps the grease do its job, so the joints slide with less friction and transmit less vibration. Those smooth joints also resist the seizure that destroys a driveshaft from within. For an FC1 owner the gain is felt mostly as refinement: a turbocharged engine and CVT deliver torque as a steady surge, and freer joints let it reach the road with less vibration. It is a sensible fit for a sedan already wearing Spoon chassis parts; a stock commuter will not need it.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
