Does the Clutch Cover for AP1 make the pedal heavier?

No, hardly at all. Spoon raised clamping force by 30 percent yet reports that pedal effort barely changes and operation stays as smooth as the factory cover. The Clutch Cover for AP1 is aimed at owners who want more holding power without the heavy, on-off pedal that many stiffer covers bring.

What problems does a stronger cover solve?

Slip, abnormal wear and judder. Spoon designed the higher clamp load for hard use, where repeated high-rpm shifts and heat can make a factory pressure plate let the disc slip. Holding the disc firmly reduces the heat that glazes friction surfaces and causes the shudder some drivers notice when pulling away.

Is it worth fitting with the Spoon flywheel?

Yes, for a car driven hard. The two parts share the same AP1 and AP2 applications, and replacing them together means the transmission comes out only once. The 4.2 kg Spoon flywheel sharpens response while the stronger cover keeps the clutch from slipping under the loads that come with hard driving.

Does it fit the AP2 and the later US cars?

Yes. Spoon registers the cover for every AP1 with the F20C and every AP2 with the F22C, all with the six-speed manual. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, sells it for 2000 to 2009 model year cars, which includes the 2004 and 2005 cars with the 2.2 liter engine.

Is the cover suitable for daily driving?

Yes. Spoon kept pedal effort and engagement smoothness close to the production part, so the car stays easy to drive in traffic. The added clamp force simply gives more margin, which is useful on an S2000 that commutes during the week and sees a circuit or a fast mountain road at weekends.

Description

Spoon Sports Clutch Cover for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Clutch Cover for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 raises clamping force by 30 percent over the factory pressure plate while leaving the pedal almost exactly where Honda set it. That combination is the point. A stiffer cover usually means a heavier left leg, but Spoon kept effort close to stock and the engagement as smooth as the production part, so the car stays pleasant in traffic. The extra clamp load works where an S2000 is driven hardest: sustained high rpm at a circuit, quick shifts, and the output of an F20C or F22C that has been developed past stock. Spoon reports that the higher pressure is very effective against slip, abnormal wear and judder in those conditions. It is a sensible companion to a lighter flywheel or to a disc that is due for replacement, and the pick for a car that will see regular track time; on a stock car driven gently, the factory cover is not the weak point.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
