What supporting parts does the Big Turbocharger Kit for FK8 require?

Spoon names three. The Hondata Fuel System Upgrade is mandatory because the factory system cannot keep up, a higher-capacity clutch is needed for the torque, and the engine must be calibrated on the car. The big turbocharger kit for FK8 includes its gaskets, but none of the supporting parts are sold by BA.

How much power did Spoon gain?

Spoon recorded about 100 ps and 15 kgf-m more than stock on its demonstration FK8, which also carried a Spoon N1 muffler, Spoon air cleaner, the Hondata fuel system, an aftermarket intercooler and a replacement front pipe, tuned on the car. A car with a different specification will produce different numbers.

Why choose an MHI turbo?

MHI already supplies the turbocharger Honda fits to the FK8, so Spoon could keep the factory housing shape and mounting while changing what matters inside. Larger, CFD-optimised wheels raise flow, and because inertia is kept in check, Spoon says response improves.

Will the car lose low-speed torque?

Spoon says no. Its aim was more torque in the low and middle rev ranges as well as more power at high speed, and it sized the wheels to avoid sacrificing low-speed response. The larger turbine wheel also lowers exhaust back pressure, which helps the engine breathe at high revs.

Does it fit US FK8 cars?

Yes. The US Civic Type R from the 2017 to 2021 model years is the FK8 with the same K20C engine and 6-speed manual that Spoon registers. The kit has the same requirements on a US car: the Hondata fuel system, an uprated clutch and a calibration set up by a tuner.

Description

Spoon Sports Big Turbocharger Kit for FK8 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Big Turbocharger Kit for FK8 Honda Civic Type R is the result of years of Spoon work on the K20C, starting the day the FK8 went on sale. Using Hondata FlashPro, Spoon optimised boost, ignition timing and fuelling with a safe margin and found about 40 ps over stock from calibration alone. To go further, with more midrange torque and more power at high speed, it needed a bigger turbocharger. Spoon chose MHI, which supplies the factory FK8 turbo, and used CFD analysis to reshape the compressor and turbine blades. The compressor wheel grows from 58 mm to 65 mm and the turbine wheel from 47 mm to 52 mm, raising flow while limiting inertia, cutting exhaust pressure and sharpening response. The housing keeps the factory shape, so it bolts on without machining. This is a serious build part, not a first modification.

Features

MHI turbocharger from the supplier of the factory unit
Compressor wheel enlarged from 58 mm to 65 mm
Turbine wheel enlarged from 47 mm to 52 mm
Blade shapes refined with CFD analysis

Applications

Honda Civic Type R: FK8 | 2017-2021 | 2.0L K20C1 turbo

Notes

The Hondata Fuel System Upgrade is required: Spoon says the factory fuel system cannot supply enough fuel for the extra output, and the Hondata package of injectors, higher fuel pump capacity and software raises fuel delivery by 24 percent
A higher-capacity clutch and a calibration set up on the car are also required; none of these parts are sold by BA
Spoon measured about 100 ps and 15 kgf-m over stock on its FK8 demonstration car with the Big Turbocharger Kit for FK8, a Spoon N1 muffler, a Spoon air cleaner, the Hondata fuel system, an aftermarket intercooler, a replacement front pipe and on-car tuning

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
