Is a radiator cap included with the Aluminum Radiator for FD2?

No. Unlike the Spoon radiators for some earlier Hondas, the Aluminum Radiator for FD2 ships without a cap. Reuse the factory cap if it is in good condition, or fit a new one, and order the required Spoon SEP hoses and fresh coolant at the same time.

Why does Spoon recommend a sports ECU?

A larger radiator only helps if the fan and coolant flow are managed to use it. Spoon recommends a sports ECU with revised fan control, along with a thermostat, so the fan engages at a temperature suited to track driving and the K20A stays in its ideal range for longer sessions.

Are the SEP hoses really necessary?

Yes. Spoon lists them as required. At high rpm the water pump can draw a standard radiator hose flat, restricting flow at exactly the moment cooling matters. The thick-walled Spoon SEP hoses keep their shape, so the radiator receives full flow throughout a session.

Will the air conditioning still work?

Yes. The radiator is designed to fit with the air conditioning installed, so the condenser remains in place and the FD2 keeps its comfort on the road. That makes the upgrade practical for a sedan that is driven to the circuit, used hard there and driven home again.

Does it fit both FD2 production periods?

Yes. Spoon lists it for sedans made between March 2007 and September 2008 and for the revised cars made from September 2008 until August 2010. Every FD2 Spoon registers has the K20A and the 6-speed manual, so a single part number suits all of them.

Description

Spoon Sports Aluminum Radiator for FD2 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Aluminum Radiator for FD2 Civic Type R differs from the earlier Spoon radiators in one important way: on the FD2, Spoon pairs the bigger core with engine management rather than a thermo switch. The radiator itself follows the familiar Spoon recipe of an all-aluminum, two-row core 35 mm thick in the factory outline, compatible with air conditioning and rated by Spoon at about 40 percent more cooling. To make full use of it, Spoon recommends a sports ECU with revised fan control together with a thermostat, so fan and coolant flow are matched to the extra capacity. No radiator cap is supplied, so the factory cap or a new one goes on. Spoon SEP radiator hoses are required, as on the other Spoon radiators of this type, to stop the hoses collapsing at high rpm. For an FD2 that sees circuit days it is the right upgrade; a road-only sedan does not need it.

The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
